I just... I love Dynasty Warriors so much

Can you or someone who's a legit fan explain the fun in these games? I've tried DW several times during the PS2 era and just thought it was mashy. I tried playing Hyrule Warriors and felt the same. I even tried Fire Emblem Warriors and couldn't get into that even though I love FE.

What's the appeal?

They tried too hard to replicate how BotW looked despite that game running at 30 fps.
They couldn't even up the enemy density to "regular" levels since it's very normal to end an AoC map with ~300 kills compared to the 1k+ of HW/FEW.

I'd like to buy a musou in this Steam sale, what do you guys think? I'm more interested in the sengoku period rather than the three kingdoms, and I'd like to try a One Piece musou.

SW5 story sucks, even by Musou standards, but if you don't care about that then the gameplay is fine I guess. Just don't expect a masterpiece.

After you're through with the story mode (assuming you're interested in it), it's basically just a fun time-waster at that point.

Hyrule Warriors 2 runs perfect on Yuzu with Vulkan. It's specifically BotW fanservice if you like BotW at all. Gameplay and story are pretty good. Ganon has a Jojo moveset in it.

Is DW8XL a decent first DW game for $20? The only musous I've played are the Zelda ones. I'm kinda only interested for a regular length of campaign/story mode.

If you're going to go that route, get it for Switch instead, since it includes all the 3DS content and DLC in the base game.

The game has 5 different story campaigns (Wei, Wu, Shu, Jin and Other), each of which is around the length of the Story Mode in HW. There's also stages that cover alternative story events (what if this character hadn't died and things like that).
You can play the Wei, Wu and Shu stories in any order, while the Jin one is meant to be played after those 3.

DW6 was peak.

It's its own timeline. I wouldn't be surprised if they left an easter egg in BoTW 2. Like the box with an old Terrako in Zelda's room. Sidon and all would also technically remember time traveling, but I wouldn't give care enough to write that dialogue if I were Nintendo. "Member when we went to a musou to fill out the roster?"

Playing her as super squishy glass cannon in the hardest difficulty of 6 was the most fun I ever had in a DW game.

I always wished for a 3K version of Dragon Ball Xenoverse / Boruto Shinobi Strikers.

None of the extra DLC is needed or worth it really, you get a fuckload of content with just the base game.

Beats me. EDF is the only thing that comes close to fulfilling my desire to delete thousands of lifeforms though it's not a musou.
