It was only later which the game started not being viewed so hot, partially because there came along competition which was often better like Fallout New Vegas, but the main thing is that after the controversial release of Fallout 4 and the huge disaster of 76, people started hating Bethesda with a passion.
So even good Bethesda games from the past like Skyrim and Fallout 3 were retroactively considered bad.
