I listened to a bunch of interviews with the guy years ago and I don't remember the missing person rate ever being brought up, or at least not being very important if it was. He focused on the unusual circumstances of how those people disappeared and, if applicable, the unusual circumstances of how they (or their belongings) were found (shit like their clothing being found perfectly folded far away from where they were last seen).
