Arcades and Atari will massively popular in the early 80s, the NES revolutionized the video game market after it collapsed in the mid to late 80s, the SNES vs Genesis gen was extremely notorious and highly marketed in the early 90s, and then Sony sold 250 million PS1s and PS2s combined through gen 5 and 6. Even PC had mainstream successes in the 90s like Doom. There's nothing obscure about it.
