Fr/Lg wasn't out yet but all of their pokemon data was already available ingame which made no sense since you couldn't import them like you can now.

Gen 2 is wild because it was clearly hacked together in a rush with no time for polish, and includes a lot of things they were just throwing at the wall to see if it would stick. It's a gen you can appreciate for being a springboard. But beyond that literally every generation past it is far superior, because they actually polished a lot of things gen 2 wanted to do but failed at. While also making sure to round off the fundamentals, like the level curve and wild pokemon levels. Not to mention increasing the total # of pokemon for certain types, like adding some actual steel and dragon types in gen 3.

Anyone who has Gen 2 as their favorite generation is being blinded by nostalgia for when they were a kid. There's no sensible person who can look at a game with so many huge flaws, and unpolished concepts and prefer it to the latter games which dont have those issues.

Emerald was just okay honestly. I think Pokémon only got worse since Gen 1 with the caveats that the third installment of each Gen was better than the first two save for Crystal, which was worse than Gold and Silver, and that major drop offs occurred after Emerald and Black/White/Black 2/White 2.

you would be missing the kino sea part with all that diving, the changing weather, the cutscene, capturing rayquaza, beating the last gym, being the champion, and cucking yourself from one of the best pokemon postgames that couldn't even be replicated in the remakes.
