I'm not because shadowlands made the lore too retarded even for me, a previously hopeless addict mount hunter. A tranny is the new judge, jury and executioner of the afterlife and literally every enemy you faced in game up until that point was done by the big bad of shadowlands who fears an even greater evil coming. It's beyond the pale, you can't fix it. You couldn't even undo shadowlands with a retcon and have it be fixed, it's just fucked.

I'm not playing this or any other expansion. I'll play WoW when they wipe all this bullshit, roll the plot back to just after WC3, declare everything after that point to have been fake news, undo the cross-server bullshit, get rid of the cash shop, get rid of flying mounts in zones with no verticality, re-implement RPG mechanics, get rid of the fucking faction system that shouldn't have even made it out of the original beta, get rid of the FOMO bullshit AND the "quality of life" bullshit that automates the actual MMO parts of the game, such as LFG or fast travel bullshit beyond hearthstones/mage portals/flightmasters.

Which is to say that I'm probably not going to play WoW again unless Microsoft completely reverses course on the franchise after they acquire Blizzard.

He's not wrong even in a PvP system, though, since the best PvP systems would be clan based and you could leave or enter clans as you chose, and most PvP would be FFA. Faction systems are an outdated, archaic concept that failed in virtually every game they were deployed in and ultimately add little to no benefit to the overall game, and in many ways destroyed it. Imagine a Warcraft where Orcs didn't have to be working with Blood Elves and Forsaken because they're part of the same "faction", and instead had their own agenda and own interests purely based on racial identity. That would be FAR superior to what WoW did, and hey, oh yeah, that's what Warcraft originally was to begin with, racial identities, not faction identities.

The only dumb thing about the faction system, outside of the lack of good lore, is the inability to even talk to eachother.

I don't think you should be able to group up, no, if you have a friend, roll the same faction, simple as that, you don't group up with your enemy.
But you should at least be able to talk with eachother.

Yes, it would be, since here's the thing, that would only be the PLAYERS, not the actual races. You could have the players be adventurers/mercenaries what have you that work outside racial lines for gamepaly purposes but keep the core story and world based on racial identity, which would lead to much better and more coherent world building. One of the big reasons the writing fell off a cliff after the RTS series is the constraint the faction system puts on the writing team, you can't write what would make sense since the factions must stay together, or apart, at all costs even though it makes absolute zero sense for that to be the case multiple points throughout the story. It makes every character seem like a schizophrenic hypocrite as they whiplash from one characterization to another since they aren't allowed to have an actual identity or coherent goals, which is why ultimately the writers just gave up and made everything center around the current main leader of each faction.

But it IS purely PvE, it has ALWAYS been purely PvE, PvP was ALWAYS a sideshow, and making it a PvP title would mean drastically revamping the game on a fundamental level. I too was coaxed into the belief that PvP had some kind of role to play in WoW by the faction system and the narration in the beginning talking about some faction war going on in far off lands and there being contested zones and things like that. But it was a lie. The game stopped being even remotely PvP oriented in the fucking alpha. As early as the beta the game had been developed at a fundamental level to be a PvE game, and everything that hinted at there being some kind of PvP faction war was basically false advertisement.

So if we're talking about WoW as the game we've played since Vanilla, we're talking about a PvE title. And PvE titles don't need faction systems.

That said, the faction system as designed would also have struggled in a PvP title simply because of how rigid it is. If your race is red, you're red and if your race is blue, you're blue, and there's no switching around to account for imbalance. It doesn't even make sense in the game world, since nothing in the lore or story of WC3 implied big, rigid alliances. One day the humans, orcs and night elves are all fighting each other, the next they're teaming up against the Scourge and the Legion, that's literally the story of Reign of Chaos.

But the Night Elves shouldn't be in the Horde. They shouldn't be in any faction, because there should be no factions. It should have been that various races had affinities for each other and if you race has bad relations with another race, you'd need to do a rep grind like with those furbolgs in Felwood.

Yes, there will be times when you have a common enemy, and I can see why the alliance and horde would, begrudgingly, fight on the same side on that war, though I still don't like the idea of grouping up with the other faction, not sure what precisely it is, but I wouldn't want the faction system gone no matter what - that said, I'd push the story in a way where we wouldn't create friendship bracelets for eachother every 2 years.
