Does objectivity exist in video games?
Does objectivity exist in video games?
yes
doom is objectively the best game ever made
Yes
wouldn't the person who painted the 6 or 9 know which one it is?
Cringe pseudointellectual.
It depends how you define objectivity and whether or not the developers of a game share your definition, and give a shit enough to implement it into their game.
Nope
All mentions of objectivity are just facades to cover up subjectivity
No ones judgement is more valid than another's, humans will never know true reality
Judgement of videogames, and all art as a whole is pointless masturbation
It's a lowercase g
yes
How come braille uses dots and not raised lettering?
who are you talking to
Same reason government speeches use sign language translators instead of closed caption.
Kinda
Like if there’s a gameplay mechanic where if you hit triangle as your character attacks, you skip to the end of the game and instantly win. If that is an intentional mechanic and not a bug, it’s objectively invalidating the entire game and makes it somewhat pointless to even play it. If a mechanic actively hurts the game and gives no benefit and in fact invalidates the game isn’t it objectively bad?
If you have any standards at all yes.
Subjectively good mechanic for journalists
What do people even mean when they say objectivity? How is personal fun/entertainment "objective"? Even if someone calculated the most happiness from the brain from 1 game, it's still a silly idea because happiness is not always the value or entertainment everyone wants or cares about.
Yes, but only actual metrics. Like poly count, draw distance, and average frames per second.
Something like "better" artstyle/plot/music, immersivity, and control schemes, would all be subjective.
I feel like objectivity is praised more than it should be though. It's fine to have different opinions because people will even value objective aspects differently. Some would say that sub 120 FPS is unacceptable, some would say 30 is fine. High polycount absolutely does not mean your game looks pleasing. Some people want to see a shrub from 200 meters, and others would rather keep the higher frames and see it at 50.
TL;DR
Yeah, but it doesn't matter at all.

What matters is A) convoying the experience of the game, B) relating how the experience works/doesn't work and C) convoying what you're perspective. Otherwised it's just "game is fun" "nah it's not it's shit"
6 and 9 are objectively correct when looked at topologically
I meant equal not correct

You can't close caption in real life if there's someone deaf in the audience.
Yes /thread
That's a funny joke.
It's a catch-22. If you say no, you're making an objective assessment about objectivity. If you say yes, then there is objectivity.
Stop trying to bait the thread for (you)s.
6--9
Doesn't even exist in real life. Consensus is usually good enough to pass as objectivity anyways.
Republican: "It's a 4."
Democrats: "4 is old enough."
If it didn’t exist. Neither would Yea Forums
Yes. Some things are subjective like someone who's into single player RPGs probably won't be able to properly determine the value of an FPS game. But other things like how game mechanics work together, the amount of content within a game, graphical fidelity performance are objective. Example I think Pokemon Sword and Shield is a blisteringly mediocre games. Graphically the game looks worse than PS2 games (see Final Fantasy 12) made in 2006. That's objective. Because in FF12 your clothes are affected by the weather. NPCs are actually allowed to touch one another. The game doesn't chug nearly as often. Regarding the system there's less exploration than even the gameboy games. In RBY if you remembered the river near the rock tunnel and went back with Surf then you could find an entirely new area. There's a endgame cave right next to Cerulean City. The Seafoam Islands could be completely skipped but if you explore it then you can find a powerful Pokemon in it. In SwSh you've seen everything there is to see on your first pass through Galar. The gimmick of the game, Dynamax, isn't even usuable through most of the game and it's balanced so poorly that it's basically an autowin wherever its used. There's nothing SwSh does that games in its own series haven't done better assuming its present at all. There are no dungeons in SwSh. That's all objective. Even if you like SwSh, you still have to contend with that.
Two questions for Yea Forums.
Q1: What is the objective of video games?
Q2: Why do you believe this is a universal principal that applies to all people and games?
If you can answer these 2 questions I will accept that video games aren't subjective.
WOW JHIN IS A REPUBLICAN?! NO WAY!
Why are leftoids so terrible at memeing?
1. To trigger an emotional response
2. Because that’s the reason humans do anything besides survival functions
Doom 2 is objectively superior
>No arguments
2fag cope
Except that the translator is usually super imposed in a box over the video of the politician.
yo ufucked it up stupid
in the real one the democrat says "racist"
>Does objectivity exist
No
uhoh they are getting closer....
Some people have an obsession with being right and proving that to everyone around them. Still, I'm not sure what op meant by "objectivity in videogames".
Not accurate. It's not nearly long enough.
because you cant handle the banter, apparently.
Performance is the only thing you can evaluate objectively because there's a number that it can be valued at, anything that can't have a numerical score attached to it can not be objectively measured. Hell, you can argue that even performance is subjective, like what about a game that runs great even on potato pcs but is filled with bugs?
Yes, but only when something is bad.
Objectively, im not sitting through a 6 hour video
kek
>democrats
>leftoids
What is your definition of leftism, then?
biological dead ends being manupulated by cultural marxists
>the people who want to replace their own children's future with shitskins and want to support trans children
>bro, you see democrats are basically conservatives and...
shut the fuck up leftoid or I will kill you.
All games need rules.
>inb4 some fogshit like goat simulator
If a game has key binds, it has rules
Objective-ity hehe
>6 is just 5 with the bottom closed
base 10 is worthless padding and if you disagree you are a casual
Consensus of metacritic ratings, agreeing with fans is as close to objective as possible
Everything is completely subjective
We're all biological dead ends in here, user.
Dumb fucks
Let's have one about Skub.
>Objectively, im not sitting through a NINE-THOUSAAAAND hour video
Meanwhile, democrats will look you dead in the eye, and without an ounce of humor, insist that the man in a dress is a woman.
Why would it?
Games themselves are aesthetic portrayals and enterpretations of the world to begin with.
