It's worth playing, it has a lot of qualities (atmosphere, art direction, weirdness of the world giving off a melancholic feel), and a couple of flaws (some stupid ideas, gameplay, etc.), but overall it's worth giving a try. See if you like it.
It's a lot better than Dark Shit 3 and Elden Shit.

Don't buy it on PC. Pirate it. Fromsoft has not fixed the online for this game and its doubtful they ever will. There was an exploit months ago and it was such a fucked up exploit that they need to do a bunch of shit to fix it, so instead they just turned off all the servers for all the PC Souls games (except Elden Ring).

Some modders fixed the exploit in DS3 but once the servers went down that didn't matter anymore either. So yeah, Fromsoft is probably not going to fix this (radio silence on their end, probably rolling in all the Elden Ring cash they got) and even though the older games have much reduced online its still a component that is a lot of fun. They took a huge chunk out of the game. Don't support this kind of shit, just pirate it.

It's definitely not essential to rush the stat as long as you use your roll as an evasive maneuver rather than an i-frame button. Most of the game is designed to be beaten without i-frames and it can actually be quite fun to do so until you hit later game content. So don't worry about it unless you're slow in the head and need to play it like DS3.

Unless it got changed and I don't remember movement is kind of weird cuz it's not full 360, it's 8 ways. Not a big deal I guess if you play with WASD like a weirdo. A lot of things are resistant to slash and weak to blunt, even things that don't make sense like unarmored enemies, enough to make a pretty big difference. Low ADP is extremely painful and I have no idea why classes without shields start with such low ADP, but 15-20 makes the game way more tolerable.

ds2 is the only game in the series where opening a shortcut actively makes the area harder by tripling the encounter from 2 enemies to 6+ when you aggro one

Fine that's why it has the best encounters. I wish the others were as hard. DS3 is a snoozefest in comparison because half the enemies don't aggro at all.

When I first played DS2, I wasn't impressed at all. The whole game felt like nostalgia bait from start to finish. Then when I played DS3 I saw how much worse things could be, and now I love DS2. It's a great game with a lot of heart.

It depends on you perspective
I think, for a first playthrough, that BB remains unmatched. For a first playthrough BB is the undisputed king, best game ever made.
But DS2 very quickly catches up on replays, and it's already pretty close.
DS1 is a truly amazing game for the first half and then gets pretty awful
and DS3 is just awful garbage throughout.

I haven't put a single point in that stat in any of my playthroughs
It actually makes the game interesting instead of "press circle to win"
