It was the worst implementation of a peripheral you could possibly manage. The first iteration of kinect fell prey to the same issue every other optional peripheral did: Not everyone had it, so no one was developing for it and therefor no one but the early adopters bought it. You have to pack-in and sell that kind of peripheral with the hardware itself, from the start of its life. That's the only way you'll see widespread support.

Which leads us to the second iteration. Microsoft went ham with their plans to utilize the kinect in ways outside of games. The second iteration of kinect that originally came with the xbone was intended to add more layers of DRM(for instance, limiting how many people in a room could watch video content) as well as targeted advertising. It was so transparent even the normalfags caught on and wanted nothing to do with it. That killed the kinect for good, because it forever became associated with the Xbone's reputation as an "NSA spy box."

They pushed it hard right when the waggle fad was over and even Nintendo were looking to get away from it. Sony did this shit too, but at least had enough foresight to cut their losses on it (as they do with everything that doesn't turn immediate profit like the Vita)

The Just Dance games (before they used the Year titles) were fun as fuck to play. 5 Starring the songs in JD1-4 with the bros was a great time. He did make the mistake of playing one of the gay songs in public, you do that in the privacy of your own home.

what you can do with motion capture-based controls is just too limited and not that fun when the novelty wears off. Basically anything you can do with kinect can be described with "gets old real fucking fast".
