Does anyone really find the PVE in Overwatch to be that compelling? I thought it was fine as a fun little bonus mission to try out, but the idea of grinding out PVE missions in Overwatch seems kind of boring.

I think Blizzard saw they were going to lose Destiny and wanted an FPS game that could fill that newly missing niche and added at PVE aspect to Overwatch 2. I don't really feel like there's an organic desire from the playerbase wanting this.

I mean it's true, there's a new hero, new maps, hero changes and that's it. It's the exact same game, it's slightly better mind you because double shield is gone but that came at the cost of a 6th player. Also many heroes, mainly supports, are completely unchanged.
It's not a big deal since it's free but calling it overwatch 2 is still a bit ridiculous.

They never even attempted to fix any of the core design problems OW had. Hitboxes are very important in first person shooters and half of the heroes have some fucking jank hitboxes with most of the men having fairly straightforward square frames and some of the women like Tracer and Widow are like trying to shoot a toothpick. FoV being capped at 103 cause point blank encounters (which happen VERY often) far too disorienting making it needlessly difficult to track just where the fuck the enemy is at, especially if it's a hypermobile hero like Genji. Even with the game being 5v5 the forced 1 Tank/2 Supp/2 Damage meta is cancer because NO ONE WANTS TO PLAY TANK OR SUPPORT. JUST FUCKING MAKE IT 3 DPS YOU RETARDED FUCKING TROGLODYTES. Role queue still exists despite it benefiting no one. Congratulations, you've removed the arguments rankedfags have over who's going what role at the cost of making Damage players (the majority of your playerbase) suffer 10 minute queue times. And despite this, the shitters who refused to pick Orisa instead of instalocking Genji before role queue are still hardstuck Bronze.

The seasonal missions weren't masterpieces of the pve genre, hardly considerable parts of the game as a whole, but they made for neat holiday fun with friends and ways to expand the depth of the characters' backstories and personalities. I predict with the OW2 campaign they are trying to make a more traditional PvE what with the talent system they were teasing a while back; I hope that makes it in, and that they add even more ways to morph a character like Junkrat, a dinky little guy balanced for "competitive" 5v5 human pvp, into an unstoppable OP non-stop-grenade-barraging robot slayer with all the bells and whistles by the end of the campaign. As boring as OW gameplay is the characters have a lot of potential when you remove the context of tournament-oriented design.
