I should have clarified: It's still a huge guilty pleasure for me now, but I unironically loved it and thought it was a masterpiece when I was about 15 or 16 years old.

The main girl in it, Eleven, is clearly inspired by Lucy from Elfen Lied as well as the secret facility she comes from in the show. This was confirmed in interviews. Stranger things is one of those shows that wore its inspirations on its sleeve though. It's pretty easy to tell that the series is a mixture of stuff the creators liked a lot, like Twin Peaks, Silent Hill, 80s stuff and Elfen Lied.

Real talk, for those who enjoyed Elfen Lied, did you just watch the anime or also read the manga? Manga is a hot piece of shit that went on for too long.
