For the majority it's background noise, either while playing a game or getting to sleep. People like hearing people talk about things they know about. The majority of people who watch these videos couldn't tell you what points were raised 5 minutes after finishing the video.

The voice acting was so good I didn't even realize it wasn't part of the game until he started talking about monster hunter.

I'm not gonna play the game but I'm interested in the story. This is the best way for me to experience the story.

Its a really good game apart from the combat being a bit clunky and being the original dark souls experience. Honestly Its a bit dated and unfriendly so it might be good to play on a lower difficulty. Just learn the quen sign first and spam that

I don't know if it's different in vanilla 2, but in FCR and 3 quen is a noob trap. All the time spent recasting shield is time wasted not dodging, not staggering and not doing damage.

I like watching vids like that once in a while over the course of a couple days, or listening to it while playing the game itself. If I like a game a lot I'm probably interested in one of these independent "documentaries" on the game.

yes but they have a focus on discussing the game itself and it's mechanics and lore, let's plays are typically one or a few guys playing while talking about whatever.

I definitely remember feeling the same thing about Quen in 2 after I dropped it the first time (probably at Letho) and came back to it after seeing how other people played. In addition to everything you said about it being true, you also don't regen any stamina or whatever while Quen is active, which is probably the biggest reason why it fucks with new players.

So you're new and see a sign that makes you invulnerable for a few incoming attacks and obviously that's gonna be your bread and butter. But then any slightly challenging encounter results in you running around like a jackass half the time waiting to be able to cast Quen again cuz you haven't been learning how to avoid damage while also dealing damage and the only time you feel safe attacking a dangerous enemy is if you're invincible.

Shit like the trap sign and the mind control sign are miles above Quen in terms of utility and actually giving the player room to learn and understand combat.
