The film was heavily edited blatantly.

Tails shows up in daylight and goes straight to the same place from above that sonic does, to his house, in an instant.
Then cut to night hours later without explanation without tails reaching the house.

No pink flames out the sewer when sonic throws pink bombs. Self inserted man-child gets tape on his mouth removed through a solid bit of metal and calls sonic a menace.
