Gen 2 was such a good balance of comfy and intensity. Everything just felt right

People will say the day/night mechanic added nothing to the game. Those people don't understand games sometimes go beyond practicality to create something more.

Soul peaked here.

This. Getting home from school and watching it turn from day to nighttime whilst playing is burned into my memory. Plus some of the routes changed during the day/night, so there really is a practical point.

not to mention it has both regions

;__; Looks like it's raining today.

I haven't played HG/SS since i dropped pokemon around gen 3. How does the day-night-morning cycle look in that version of the region? I'm kind of curious since i really loved gold and silver when I was younger.

I just wish Kanto in Gen 2 wasn't such a stripped down shitpile. Missing the Safari Zone, Pokemon Tower gets turned into a fucking radio station you can't even explore, Viridian Forest demoted to a tree maze on Route 2, Power Plant isn't a dungeon anymore, no Cerulean Cave.

I know this is making excuses but a lot of the things you mentioned got "fixed" by Red. The tower now has no ghosts haunting it so its become hospitable, Zapdos no longer harasses the power plant, etc.

How did they manage to fill a game with so many amazing moments? Truly wonderful.

I can't explain why but this palette looks super comfy. Nothing from the games post gen2 can compare to it.

This makes me want play Prism, wish more people made gen 2 romhacks, I’d kill for gen 2 demakes of gens 4, 5 and 6.

> 160x144
Did boomers really?

Playing this alongside Stadium 2, Puzzle League games, and 2000 and 3 were the peak of my Poke fandom.
>Tfw haven't bought Pokemon in almost a decade
What happen to this franchise?

gpodd damn it take me back .i remebner playing it so long i would get headaches. i wouldn't even eat i'd be playing it so long.

The color palette was amazing. HGSS just didn't feel the same.

Some games pushed the GBC hardware harder than 2nd gen Pokemon but man they made the sprites looks so crisp the game just always looks beatiful, just really clean designs and great use of colors.

seeing those item balls got me so exited.

In terms of palette and presentation
>2

There's just something about this song that I feel HGSS missed when they remixed it. It's like sex to my ears.

>Fat fuck interrupts the gameplay with forced conversation
>Mash 'A' because who gives a shit about fluff dialogue included to pad out the game
Brainless game design

Pokemon is still fun but more multiplayer focused now

>inb4 comes that autistic zoomer faggot to shit on Gen 2 with passion because he is unable to appreciate the things Gen 2 did for pokemon games and how it pushed gbc to its limits
I wont be hanging around for long, but when you see that fag user, tell him a "fuck you" from me

TPCI got too comfortable and Masuda went the way of many out of touch old nip devs, Arceus was good though, only Pokemon game worth a damn since ORAS and SV looks decent enough so far
gen 1 unironically has better presentation than gen 8, swsh are just ugly as shit

This was mostly fixed in HGSS

Soulless.

>3 above 4, 5 and 7
topkek

I WANT TO GO BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACK youtube.com/watch?v=Jpdy9pZyGH4

Gen 2 was good mostly because it included much of Gen 1 Pokemon and a Gen 1 post-game. So was it really that good?

the gen 1 post game was trash, retard

>some of the routes changed during the day/night
What?

youtube.com/watch?v=XnPm5mgN6Fg

Gives me a particular feeling.

Why did they think that the game should start with having to fight a hundred Bellsprout in a row

Gen 2 was still a complete package even before you set foot in Kanto. Anyone who dismisses all the advancements and vanilla content the Johto region brought the series and resorts to “muh genwunner nostalgia” didn’t actually play the games.

The gen 3 games have a lot of charm, but I’ll admit it’s not the best looker with all the sprites looking like a steamroller ran them over, FRLG kinda fixed that though. Gen 7 looked nice, yes, but it was kinda souless, and I was never a fan of how gen 5 looked or it’s color palette, looked to “cold”, for the lack of a better term

>Gen 1 post game was trash
Revisionist history, this blew everyone's mind as a kid.

Certain trainers only appeared at night, so you could only fight or rechallenge them during the nighttime.

Just re-played and have been itching to re-play Gen 3.

You can't go back.
youtu.be/qzOrkIG9BB0

uneven pixels automatically make it soulless

>Revisionist history, this blew everyone's mind as a kid.
top fucking kek, proving my point to the t
the only reason people liked it was due to its concept, not due to its execution
and as you've literally just admitted, it doesn't hold up now

>tfw I used to return to Kurt's house just to "visit him" and "let him know how my adventure was going"

Anyone else do this shit as a kid? I thought the characters in the game were my real friends.

coping DS fetus

I'm amazed how some people can actually call Gen 3 soulful, I know it's nostalgia but still

Games don't age.
If you're not putting yourself into the perspective of the time period when revisiting old content, you're doing it wrong.

This was peek

I would visit my mom to see if she said anything new but she just repeated the same thing: GIVE ME YOUR MONEY!

>Gen 1 post-game
Fuck off. Johto is a great region on its own. The lighthouse, the Bellsprout tower, the dragon cave, the radio tower dungeon, the Slowpoke tail-eating shennanigans. It's got so many memorable location and events.
>B-but the level curve!
No one cares about the level curve, Pokemon games are braindead easy anyways. And even considering the fact that it's supposed to be "too easy" due to the level curve being wack, the start of Gen 2 still has the gym leader that brought most people to their knees with her fucking Miltank.

>*proceeds to post the thumbnail of some random piece of splash art*
awww, couldn't post an image of the actual game to prove your point because we both know it's crap ;(

>Gen3 fag
Worst game in the series until the post-DS games.

You will never be a classic (1/2) fren.

are you kidding? it's incredible. got that hawaiian atmosphere. got that regi trio mystery. got the abandoned ship and its own unique theme. got the diverse new cool looking pokemon. Its atmosphere is unparalleled for a pokemon game. The BATTLE FRONTIER? Absolute insanity. it's miles above gen 4's slow, ugly engine.

This is what I miss most about Pokemon. I can still have fun as an adult but I notice that a lot of the time I never go back to a town after I get the badge. It feels more like a game and less like a world, because I don’t get stuck on the Ice Path for a month and just backtrack and explore around anymore.

The music also peaked. Everything gen 3 onwards is too bombastic and frumpy sounding

Untimely shill of Polished Crystal. It's MORE Crystal.

Attached: polishedcrystal.png (160x144, 2.59K)

I’m gonna do what this user suggested
Fuck you

this looks like shit, the heads are way too big but somehow not detailed enough. it doesn't even look like night, it looks like dusk.

It also added something objectively, there are different pokemon at different times of day which adds to variety and immersion

>Hawaiian atmosphere
Too upbeat/happy.

The game has no atmosphere at all. Just annoying trumpets ringing in your ear.
It also started the trend of having friendly rivals which has been a cancer on Pokemon ever since.

Really meh.

Soul

it's a kids game. how the fuck is hawaian atmosphere "too happy"? god you're stupid.

Can't beat 8-bit squarewave beats. G/S/C benefited immensely from being released when the Game Boy was such an incredibly mature platform, many tricks on how to squeeze art out of it were known, but it still had all the 8-bit soul.

I noticed that before with there being divided sections in the draw area.
Is it emulator related or is it hard-coded?

I tried the inbuilt nuzlocke mode and the gyms are too hard. Bugsy is the furthest I've ever made it in like 6 attempts.

IIRC, Johto is by far the lowest time to get to the credits, and it only reaches average length when you add in Kanto.

Gen 1 and 2 have extremely eerie moments and lots of places with a reflective/melancholy feeling.
