Was it really the last good FF?
Was it really the last good FF?
Yeah. It was the last FF game to have the soulful turn based combat.
Currently my favourite Final Fantasy and it's not even close.
>final pedophiles IX
>final seagulsssssssss X
no
No, FF Type 0 came out a decade later.
>Tabata trash
>good
I liked X-2 and final fantasy 13-2
I'd argue it's the last FF that felt like the devs actually knew what they wanted to make and the last one that stays relatively consistent in its level of quality. Every FF since FFX has tried to play with different, often wonky gameplay mechanics that got abandoned in later games, have incredibly questionable writing decisions, sometimes came out truly unfinished (see original FFXIV and FFXV), and are just all over the place in terms of quality.
FFX was the last game in the series that kept to turn-based and was at least consistent in the story/gameplay it went for. It definitely wasn't the best FF by any means, but it doesn't have any of the massive issues some of the later entries had. Nowadays FF games are constantly trying to reinvent the wheel with gameplay and often times come out half-baked or just not as consistently fun to play. I think some of the later FF games have some genuine bits of quality to them, but even the ones I like have massive, glaring issues marring the whole experience.
>FF14 Havensword exist and it is good
>FF Type 0 exist and it is good
>FF15 exist and it is good
FFIX was the last good one, albeit a step down from VIII, as they were trying to recapture the magic from the earlier games
in a complete sense? absolutely, games after had good aspects for sure, but they had a lot of negative design too.
i like type 0, but its not really a good ff game like i said above it has a lot of just terrible design to it for no real reason. and its super low budget and content light
FFXII was better
>best battle system in the series
>never used again
Sad
i don't like x, but i can't deny that it had soul
>albeit a step down from VIII
If FFXII had a better plot it would be one of the best games of all time. The gameplay and amount of content is great.
x is the source of every single problem not only of square, but jrpgs in general. every bad thing that could ever be said about xii, xiii and xv was first pioneered there, and with resounding success.
T0 is the best FF game since FFXI
Yes
XV was the last good FF.
yu yevon was crap, the enemy variety was dogshit, last seymour fight you couldn't even see him, you couldn't visit bevelle or dream zanarkand, changing players on the battle made it too easy to exploit enemy weakness, etc
But oh boy, did the designs, the story, the themes and the music made it up for it, it felt eyhereal.
Tidus sacrifice and his growth is truly one of the best in gaming history, and it's a shame people only talk about his voice actor or that laugh scene, wich made sense in the context btw
I miss the “fantasy” aspect. I want non humans NPCs and party members again damn it
nah, ffix has the slowest battles out of any game, a real pain
X had turn-based combat from what I remember, which is what I'm sorely missing from the series these days. They've turned FF into an awkward action series over the years with very little in terms of party customization.
FFX may have started all the linear cinematic bullshit, but at least the gameplay was good. It certainly didn't start the trend of half-assed hack and slash combat.
>can't write an ending
>let's kill the cast
Type-0 was dogshit, like everything Tabata made.
i would have honestly rathered some awkward early 3d jank action bullshit but at the very least with some decent maps/dungeon layouts.
>most refined gameplay ever
>in a fucking corridor
this is some monkey paw bullshit
Try playing the PAL version
>FFX may have started all the linear cinematic bullshit
I don’t think this complaint is fair. The “linearity” was plot driven and there was still side stuff to do and allowed back tracking for a good bit of the story. Ff13 is far more linear than 10 ever was.
Well, now we have a bunch of games in the series with linear corridors AND janky action gameplay. FFX has some serious trash throughout, but it'll always sit higher on the list for me simply because the combat is just proper ass turn-based. Which I'll take that over the wonky 3D action gameplay they try to make work in every new iteration.
Seriously, I fucking dropped the FFVII Remake despite genuinely wanting to enjoy it. The gameplay unironically felt like a clunkier poor man's Kingdom Hearts. And now we have FFXVI looking like some flashy Devil May Cry shit where you're just spinning around enemies like a spaz. I fucking hate it. I get action gameplay appeals to the mainstream more, but it just doesn't appeal to me whatsoever.
I mean, yeah, obviously FFXIII was a major offender of the linear shit. But you have to admit that FFX really started it all. It takes until, what, the end of the game to even get the ability to return to old areas? There was plenty to do on the road the game took you down and it was certainly justified by the story that you shouldn't be doubling back. But FFX started that trend. The entries that came afterwards just continued to double down on it all.
It's kinda like Resident Evil 4 in some ways. I love RE4. But even I can admit it's what started some of the bullshit you then saw in RE5 and RE6. A game can be great but still set a really negative trend going forward. That doesn't make the game bad necessarily, but you can't just write off what it set up for the future.
No.
It was the first bad one.
A lot of people on Yea Forums hope the 7 remake gets cancelled after part 2, and while that's extremely likely, my hope is it continues for years and years and only gets worse so we all get to see exactly how much shit the hardcore fans are willing to eat before giving up
But that’s 8 because the junction system was somehow too complicated for people
I love 8
But in FFX it made sense because it was a religious pilgrimage, so you need to have a sense of focus and purpose.
Yes, and I agree that it made sense. That doesn't make it interesting or engaging though to essentially be holding the control stick forward for several hours, going from cutscene to boss fight.
And regardless of how you feel, it started a trend that would then become pretty poisonous to the series as a whole.
I can't imagine FFVII:R will get cancelled. Pretty sure the first "chapter" did well, and anything branded with FFVII will sell decently anyway. They've definitely bit off more than they can chew though since they now have the open world to contend with in the next entry. Or they'll scrap the open map entirely and make it linear, which will then serve to piss me off more.
Damned if they do, damned if they don't. Thankfully, I doubt it matters to them since it's going to make money regardless.
It started that way. Then we detoured for some blitzball, took part of a suicidal operation, murdered a psycho, became traitors of a world wide cult conspiracy, took a nice trip to the desert for some lore flavoring, enjoyed a lovely wedding reception, took part of a staged trial/jail. Good times.
no
Yes.
No, 11 and 12 were both pretty good. Not as good as 10 but still pretty good. Oh and tactics advance.
No, it was the third bad one and the first in the true downfall of the series.
>most boring mmo in recent memory
>crappy hack n slash
>assassin’s creed: final fantasy
You’re wrong on all 3 accounts and you have shit taste and you’re a fag.
People like you are why they haven’t made a good final fantasy in so long.
For me it wasn't the junction system but the fact that enemies got stronger as you leveled up
there was nothing wrong with this, the difficulty of the game is in the toilet and its the worst aspect. the game is too easy at all times by a massive margin, and there is no way to make it more difficult whilst retaining the sense of levelling and progression that is the reason people play rpgs to begin with. to make ff8 difficult you have to impose so fucking many limitations and dumb rules on yourself as to what you wont be allowed to use or do, and it doesn't make the game any more fun because of it.
ff8 needs the difficulty cranked up by like 5-10x
I never found the game hard beyond ultima and omega weapon. Never felt like a struggle to win.
I tried to fix Tidus's design. Does it look better?
it looks like shit
we told you in the other thread
He looks too modern and less fantasy and changing the sword handle to the Jecht symbol makes zero sense plot wise given it was the sword wakka wanted chappu to use originally
a faggot in both versions so if you're gonna a fag at least be flamboyant
now he looks like he belongs in Kingdom Hearts
literally just looks like its trying hard to fit into kingdom hearts rather than ff. tidus' design is fine to begin with it doesn't need fixing
X-2 is a dumb story with an insane 100% criteria but has the most fun combat system in the series
12 was good though is an argument for a game having too much content
13 is on the weaker half of FF games but is comically overhated
13-2 actually resolves most of the complaints people have with 13 but is by far the shortest 3D FF and started DLC for the series
Lightning Returns is fun but also stupid, and doesn’t feel like an FF at all
15 is weak, basically trying to turn it into a not as fun Kingdom Hearts
I don’t have high hopes for 16. Just seems like more 15 only in a more FF appropriate setting
Terrible and a “fixed” design already exists.
I enjoy 13-2 for all the side crap there is and alternate endings. God I wish the ending with Serah and Snow going to help lightning or whatever was the actual ending.
>FFX was the last game in the series that kept to turn-based
What are you on about? Do you have Alzheimer's?
FFX is like when you have cancer, it's there, it's diagnosed but you don't feel any different and you run, you eat, you're doing good.
>What are you on about? Do you have Alzheimer's?
You obviously do user.
ff11: mmo, not turn based
ff12: single player mmo, not turn based, actually impossible to control all of your characters every single action, requires gambits and auto attacking, reliance on ai
ff13: not turn based, real time with a poor take on the atb system, also reliant on ai to completely control 66% of your party at all times
ff14: mmo, not turn based
ff15: not turn based
ff16: not turn based
Do you want to get into non mainline games is that your argument? Cause I hate to tell you but they were overwhelmingly not turn based either, world of final fantasy is almost the only one to actually be turn based and give you control over everything.
Nah XII was good. XIII had it's perks too. XIV is nice but should NOT have been an MMO. XV I dropped after Altissia, the Leviathan fight, and Luna's poor death. XVI is my most looked forward to game.
Uhh are you ok dude?
>No, FF Type 0 came out a decade later.
>having to level and gear 14 people
>no backrow EXP
>the actual plot locked behind NG+
not exactly a good game but not Tabata's worst work, that is 15
>poor take on the atb system
>the atb
>atb
Oh... Thank you for clearifying, now here's your diaper and bingo card senior Senior.
atb isn't "turn based" unless it has a 'wait' option in the menu retard, it is real time. and even beyond your asinine nitpicking, we all know full well that when people say they want turn based rpgs they mean they want full control over their entire party. any reliance on ai whatsoever to control actions or stop you issuing your own individual commands every single round to every single party member, instantly makes it not actually "turn based" how people are asking for.
It was the last universally liked FF. Only contrarian faglords on Yea Forums dislike this game, and even then I believe most of them are lying.
