Why has it still not been topped?
8-Bit Theater
because nobody has read a webcomic since 2012
>DnD jokes before Dnd was ruined forever
good times
8BT knew it was getting drawn out and tired and put an end to itself
Webcomics in general died out, sprite comics especially
Read MS Paint Masterpieces
>before Dnd was ruined forever
Joke's on you, I pay literally no attention to D&D's lore or settings. "THE GAME IS POZZED" complaints go in one of my ears and right out the other and I make sure to, every now and then, drink /tg/ tears when they point at the "be whatever you want, be a trans gnome if you feel like it, we don't care" character rulings in the PHB for 5e
It was nerd humor, written by a nerd, for a nerd audience.
Because the modern internet will not tolerate a web comic that antisocial anymore. For any of these people still on the internet, if you read half their stuff it's apologies for being insufficiently aware of the struggles of some group etc.
>No high budget adaptation of 8-Bit Theater into vidya a la Stranger in Paradise
Missed opportunity desu
S W O R D C H U C K S
too much words words words moments where most of the page is just text you might as well write a book
It has been, the ending was a total shart. That said it's still a good ride, even if it kneels to the vastly superior Bob and George
I had a good time with It Hurts and its sequel, Please Forgive Me.
>I don't play games but yas queen slay!
Yeah we know
I still read Order of the Stick
Why even open your yap about it if you don't care beyond a shoehorn for complaining about dangerhairs, quit being a Redditor
>It hurts!!
>Please Forgive Me!!!
Based
Anyone remember Gamecheetz? I feel like I've never heard anyone talk about it ever, but it's also been over a decade since I read it and it was probably shit.
Take me back
Same. It's close to ending tho
w00t!
It hurts! was like reading a jhonen vasquez comic but without a single bit of enjoyable humor
I was very into Please Forgive Me but It Hurts! Is amazing.
any bob and george readers here
I completely forgot what the webcomic was about though as it's been so long.
Came here to post swordchucks
Also has it actually not ended I checked on it 10 years ago and thought it wrapped up
My first webcomic I think. Ahead of its time and then sadly outdated by the time it finally ended.
TERRIBLE ECHO EFFECT
I liked RPG World
It ended a number of years ago. OP said that it hasn’t been topped which is subjective but I can see how people would think that. It didn’t overstay its welcome like so many of it’s contemporaries.
>strangers in paradise wasn't just 8BT the game
Kill me.
No HOMESTUCK mentions, really? You know, HOMESTUCK? Toby Fox? Toby Fox Undertale Deltarune and muthaflippin HOOOOOMESTUUUUUUCK???
I dropped it around the time when the cherubs showed up, probably won't ever read it again.
Vriska best girl tho
>Stranger of Paradise
>high budget
Pick one and only one.
>without a single bit of enjoyable humor
This may not be the comic that's humorless.
>Vriska best girl tho
Fighting words homie
Homestuck is actually a very interesting case-study in how to fuck up your project, and the dangers of pretending you know what you're doing. Hussie made it clear multiple times in the Viz Media collections (through writer's commentary and page notes) that he was winging it for the vast majority of Homestuck's life, which seems glaringly obvious in hindsight but you really wouldn't have guessed at as a current reader until probably the introduction of Lord English as an even higher villain (I consider giving John the power to retcon the story and doing nothing of real note with it beyond bringing fucking Vriska back to life as the last pit-stop for "Hussie has no idea what he's doing" in reader realization).
I think the earliest possible sign that Hussie had no idea of what he was doing was when he announced the commencement of A Homestuck Game, which his Kickstarter said he would not even begin development on until the comic was done. Later you could follow this up with Hussie being a straight dumbass when he rented out an expensive office for What Pumpkin to operate out of, and getting swindled out of his money by The Odd Gentlemen because he didn't read his contract. Last I recall the money intended for the Homestuck game ended up going to a King's Quest game.
Kanaya and Nepeta are the best girls and both of them got done extremely dirty. I wish I could say Equius got done dirty, but it's exactly how Equius would want to go. Granted the entire scenario leading up to most trolls' deaths was extremely stupid and extremely transparently an attempt to pare down how many characters he needed to write and keep track of.
>forgot what the webcomic was about
It was a webcomic about two superpowered siblings and their superhero antihero lives
At least, it was supposed to be
The maker procrastinated the OC story he was supposed to put together and instead wasted time with a simple parody comic of the first Mega Man
So he got fans that liked the silly sprite comic and was convinced to keep going, going on to lampoon the entire Mega Man series at the time, eventually shimmying in a few of the originally planned OC characters, which he had to do since their names were the title of the webcomic
On the one hand I like Mega Man and Bass being borderline retarded
On the other hand, Dave is a proponent of the Cataclysm theory with Zero
You don't need to be
The fucking guy is STILL uploading
Fucker still got my headcannon convinced that the green robo that guarded the Body Parts in X1 was a retrofitted Auto
Homestuck went on a downward spiral the moment Hussie listened to his egregious autistic fanbase over his own artistic vision, starting with the expanded Troll lore which while pretty good on its own opened the floodgates for total bullshit to overtake the story and oush the original cast into the corner.
Undertale is presently following that same trajectory through Deltarune's incessant MEMBERWHEN pandering
To be fair, nobody had any fucking clue back then.
Why the fuck hasn't he tried to make something new? His art doesn't even seem that bad, but goddamn.
>Deltarune's incessant MEMBERWHEN pandering
Where? That's pretty much all constrained to the light world and half of them are to fuck with you as a player coming from Undertale and expecting characters to be the same or similar there, the only other one I can think of immediately is Spamton EX and he's piloting a shitty MS Paint doodle of Mettaton EX
TSSYEAAHHHHH
This and TOME were my guilty pleasures as a kid, shame Akuma turned out to be a brony and never grew from his basic style at all, I even got into one of his Sprite Royal Rumbles with my original the hedgehog donut steel
What the hell is the story even about now?
It's not funny humor, it's post-ironic garbage humor.
It was never funny.
You know he says that but I just don't see how that's possible. It seems like there's still so much to cover. They haven't even gotten to the final gate yet much less started the final battle over it. Not to mention whatever's going on with the IFCC and Sabine as well as the actual ending itself.
Also if V doesn't get a happy ending, I will find Rich Burlew and force him to run nothing but 5e games for Roll20 randoms for the rest of his life. This is a threat.
Ease up on the butthurt.
Clancer is just an amalgamate of Papyrus and Sans, with the goofy random personality of the former and the aesthetic beats (blue/white color scheme, chibi manlet proportions) of the latter, a point further driven home as the entire Episode 0 section with him is beat for beat a recreation of the first Papyrus meeting, the Noelle/Suzie relationship is a hamfisted inclusion for the Alphys/Undyne-enjoyers, and yes including the entire original cast as wink-wink nudge-nudges only serves to please the AU AUtists, and AUs are the laziest form of worldbuilding full-stop.
Tangentially related also, but Spamton is very clearly a love letter to Andrew Hussie between the [TYPING QUIRK], goofy proportions and marionette aesthetic
Reccomend me some webcomics
Dropped that shit when he started the "but did anyone think about the goblins feelings? they're just socio-economic victims" arc. Does it redeem itself after?
Homestuck really is the Kingdom Hearts of webcomics, only Nomura usually goes out of his way to do the opposite of what fans expect.
You sound gay
Kingdom Hearts is capable of setting goals within its own story which is more than can be said of Homestuck. Whether the payoff for that is worth it is another matter since Kingdom Hearts has turned into Nomura's personal playground for seething over FFXV being taken from him, and I personally fucking hated the last stretch of Kingdom Hearts 3 while enjoying myself up until that point (Frozen world aside).
Dr McNinja
Nedroid
Gunshow
Axe Cop
>Dr. McNinja
I love this comic like you wouldn't believe.
Note that it makes heavy use of hovertext.
They do call out Redcloak's virtue-signaling a bit and state plainly that goblins have to stop sperging out and looting everyone for peace to actually be an option
>John didn't end up in a situation at the endgame where he needed to physically lift a fridge off a dying friend or some shit as the ultimate full-circle indication that he's truly become a man
Fucking TRAVESTY
Unsounded is the highest quality webcomic still running. But it is in no way Yea Forums related so I would have no reason to bring it up except that I’m seeing general webcomic recommendation requests.
Gone with the blastwave was fucking perfect!
Come to think of it I don't recall immediately if they actually did anything with John's retard strength beyond the mangrit jokes towards the beginning. He was pretty clearly set up as the Warrior of the four.
>"but did anyone think about the goblins feelings? they're just socio-economic victims" arc
This never happens lol.
i don't remember a single god damn plot point but i remember following the retardation daily
I read Gunnershit Fail, but most shit i followed has either ended or become abandoned.
I never hear anyone talk about any new web comics anymore, If I ever hear anyone talk about a webcomic its all shit from a decade ago: 8-bit theater, vg cats, ctrl+alt+del, penny arcade, homestuck, ect
Do people just not make new webcomics worth giving a single fuck about? Even on Yea Forums, the board dedicated entirely to comics, the only webcomic I see them ever talk about is gunnerkrigg court and thats old as fuck too.
Bob and George shat itself way more than 8-bit Theater did in it's final arcs.
I couldn't get into PFM but I absolutely adored It Hurts! Magma Spider is best girl
This. There are some good panels to use as reaction images but that's about it. A lot of times there's decent set up for a joke but it goes on too long past the point of being funny.
You haven't noticed by now that Yea Forums will literally make things up wholesale to get upset about?
this does happen, lmao.
retard
Read The Last Days of Foxhound.
>Tangentially related also, but Spamton is very clearly a love letter to Andrew Hussie between the [TYPING QUIRK], goofy proportions and marionette aesthetic
You're on crack. Spamton's just a send up to literal fucking spam emails. His [Typing Quirk] is constantly misread by fans as him glitching out or speaking in a different voice, but it's actually just supposed to be him literally inserting hyperlinks into his dialogue. Like what actual spam would contain.
And his "marionette" references are just the fact that he's a literal "Puppet Account".
Gunnerkrigg threads on Yea Forums have gotten smaller and smaller over time too, even as the story became less episodic and somewhat faster paced.
Unsounded really does seem looks the last webcomic Yea Forums has any lasting enthusiasm for, and that’s only got one chapter left until who knows when the author returns to start on “book two” of the story.
How can one person's artwork never improve over 20+ years?
These days it is all about "Webtoons" instead, Gunnerkrigg is great though, but the threads can vary differently in quality in quality depending on what is happening, some pages are OH FUCK moments and some are just a load of nothing.
A single panel about the villains' motivations is not an "arc"
Besides, he's saying that Redcloak is still a shithead who needs to be stopped and they'd be smart not to recreate the conditions that led to Redcloak's rise to power in the first place.
