It's half a game, twice

could've been amazing if not for all the management turnover at Konami screwing Kojima over and making him release a half-finished game

yep
Yea Forums made it sound like the worst game ever made
turns out it's great and the flaws are extremely overblown

One of the biggest disappointment in gaming

its time to finally admit mgs was never good

Adding missions and base development was a mistake. The game became a grindfest just like Peace Walker.

i liked roleplaying in this game, the same people that hate this game are the ones that like shit like mario and zelda

MGSV was the only game I played the month before uni began back in 2016. The letdown was so big that it honestly was the game that killed hype trains for me. The fact that we can rightfully spam "I'm afraid it's been 9 years" in 2 years kills me. Fuck.

I have news for you

I don't hate it it's just boring. One of the most boring games I've ever played.

Gameplay is close to ten
Everything else is three to five

>Gameplay is close to ten
Not with that awful open world

Game is shit because the gameplay itself is heavily incentivizing the use of tranq guns. Its whole gameplay system is based on the repetition of the same mission to increase base resources and expand it. That means that playing without tranq gun and using other lethal tools ironically delays the rate at which you unlock said tools. But the whole gameplay itself is based on repetition of said task for the only purpose of boosting said economy.
Essentially, you are suggesting people to play a looter shooter with extra steps in the most inefficient way possible to unlock loot. As shallow as most looter shooters are, none of them was so stupidly designed that it effectively separated the fun part of the gameplay with unlocking loot.
MGSV is not just a bad game because it is unfinished and lacks a good story despite forcing players through 1 hour long prologue and endless cutscenes. It's also a bad game because its gameplay is a badly designed skinner box of clashing designs philosophies that actively hampers your progression whenever a player tries to make use of any little depth its movement and stealth mechanics have, or engage in its average at best gunplay with Frankenstein guns that even Conviction and Blacklist did better years before

Is it true Kojima threw away a lot of the recorded voices during development ?

Wasnt there also that penalty for killing too many people, where you get all bloody and less stealthy because of it ?

Don't forget how, despite the fact that 90% of the game's weaponry is lethal, actually putting to use these unlocks you've worked for will decrease your Heroism score which makes it so that any volunteers you earn will be of lower quality. Volunteers that, if playing lethally, will be the only source of additional staff for the player

I LOVE Quiet

no

What was the reason for Big Boss to speak so little in the game then ?

Fucking brilliant!

Attached: scv.jpg (250x329, 18.21K)

played it for like 200 hrs last year, just remarkable

Fun game, shit story.

there are valid reasons to be dissapointed with the game but it's still really fun. either way it's no mgs4

because that's not big boss, just some medic

I like Ground Zeroes more.

Self-insert

Tranq being broken has been a problem since MGS 3.

The obsessed fanboys who fellate this game off while still waiting for the fabled "Chapter 3" Kojima ruse are fucking retarded. The game is unfinished.

Kojima had a visit from George Miller and they both watched Max Mad's Fury Road and Kojima based Venom as Max in that movie

>Random Medic is the 2nd/3rd best member of Big Boss military
BRAVO

>the repetition of the same mission
>grindfest

Unironically, what repetition? What grind? Played recently and never experienced either.

You need to grind quite a bit to get some of the top tier gear

Do you have to though?

Yes if you want to get the level 5 tech

Not even top tier gear, I S-ranked the entire story and I was nowhere close to getting all my teams to Lv50. FOB stuff is just completely unreachable to me

Doesnt matter, it got really retarded in certain scenes when Skull face is talking to him directly and he just sits there not saying anything.

if you're on PC you can just mod it so you don't have to grind

The game unironically filtered 90% of players.

The game's themes deal with 1984, manipulation, and lies. Everything surrounding the game is a lie. It was announced by a fake studio, as a fake game, for a different franchise. The trailers lied about what the game's story about, mostly through the use of words/subtitles written in the trailer to guide your thinking towards a specific conclusion, despite many scenes from the trailers appearing verbatim in the final game. ("Words to control the subconscious" - Ocelot). The briefing for nearly every mission you are given in the game is a lie, set up, or cover story- which you discover either through completing optional objectives or as a mid/post mission twist. Even the character you are playing as is one giant walking lie. Not only that, but several sequences are specifically designed in ways so that you can't definitively determine where the truth ends and the lies begin. How much can you really trust is real when entire sections of the game are hallucinated? When events and characters on screen and dialogue you hear can't be trusted? Kojima took this so far that even the game's structure lied to you- It lied to you that there was a Chapter 1 and a Chapter 2, giving you the implication that there was more, when in reality you have a main story and an epilogue.

We know from interviews and datamines that there were some things cut, but in the end the only things of substance that were cut was Kingdom of the Flies, Chico as a boss fight/buddy, and Battle Gear as a buddy. That's pretty much it. 99% of the game is already there, and always has been.

Some bosses take forever to beat if you dont have decent gear. But to get that gear you need to recruit more soldiers to speed up research, which means replaying the same missions where you know you will find those S ranked dudes

>Game is shit because the gameplay itself is heavily incentivizing the use of tranq guns
This is not a problem. Every metal gear game heavily incentivizes the use of tranq guns because they are more skillful to use and come with more rewards. In fact, this game actually removes some of the benefits of tranq guns that were present in earlier games, since security will be tightened if a soldier wakes up or is discovered to be knocked out in the same way that they'd be discovered dead.
>Its whole gameplay system is based on the repetition of the same mission to increase base resources and expand it
This is not true. Correct me if I'm wrong, I haven't played the game in a long time, but I do not remember a single instance of having to repeat missions to get through the main game. Mission repetition is only a thing if you want to tackle the optional content or S rank every mission, in which case there is no way for it to not make you repeat missions.
>actively hampers your progression whenever a player tries to make use of any little depth its movement and stealth mechanics have
It is the deepest move set the series has ever had. The hampering you are talking about is very negligible; you can go through the entire main game lethally and it does not make a difference. You just didn't play the game.

Going into the field and getting more guys to level up R&D and such didn't feel grindy to me i guess.

Ok, desu I didn't replay missions that way much which may have been a fault of mine. Mostly got what/who i needed in free roam.

>you can go through the entire main game lethally and it does not make a difference

Bullshit, if you do that you get penalized with that bloody suit that lowers stealth, also what said

>It is the deepest move set the series has ever had
Counterpoint: MGS4's actually deeper mechanically. Not only are there more moves to do in CQC but you are given more options at any one moment. Only things MGSV has over it are buddies and vehicles

Yea Forums is just contrarian, they hate any popular game, even if its popular for a good reason.

Maybe it was worse in Peace Walker, which I fully played.

I hate that you cant start a new save file in this game, and if you want to play again all your money are resources and shit are already unlocked from your previous playthrough. Deleting your save files or disabling cloud doesnt work because its all fucking linked to whatever servers the game uses. You have to create a new steam account then use family sharing to have to be able to play from scratch again.

game is more finished than people pretend, the fact it wasn't a fan service bridge between MGS3 and MG1 made all the spergs lose their minds

Night time, lifting off from MB with Quiet beside me. The red lights, the green ocean air. Suddenly:youtu.be/YXE9oBzST68

Just sublime

there's plenty of good mods that can rebalance the resource gathering without altogether removing it so its not a huge chore. that plus no IRL development timer mods make it very fun even on a clean file.

It's MGS2 2, a game that was panned on release and years later some pseud brainlets try to praise it as a misunderstood masterpiece that is two smrt 4 the avrage plebs" . OP has been schizo reposting this shit for months.

I found the grinding to be worse in TPP personally. Peace Walker has static unit size limits as well as a system that doesn't push for S++ recruits like TPP does, the difference between A and S isn't as pronounced, which helps ease on the grinding somewhat. All the locations of S ranked soldiers are pretty consistent and well documented as well and there's no need to worry about resources, just the one currency in GMP.
There's also the fact that it doesn't use real time timers for R&D, which I found rather annoying in MGSV since they only progressed while you had the game running if offline.

What did people want from the game?

Yeah but now we decided we all love it when Elden Ring does it MGSV might get a pass too

>a game that was panned on release
Doesn't everyone eat up MGSV as "best game ever, 10/10 Kojima does it again"?

>a fan service bridge between MGS3 and MG1

I platined that game and i loved it

But what fanservice would they want? If it is to show Big Boss’ downfall it would be more controversial than this. Kojima rather played it safe regarding that actually.

is is the worst metal gear game for the same reason elden ring is the worst souls game.

Oh yeah the resources, I forgot about that bullshit as well.

Yeah no, I will never take anyone who this the game is worse than the original MG or MGS 4 seriously

people were expecting a game at least featuring Big Boss at all. but there was no crucial "downfall" moment that needed to be portrayed. it was already evident in both MGS3 and Peace Walker, how BB's interpretation of the Boss's will and his estrangement from Zero/Cipher already had him set on the path to be who we saw in MG2 final boss. MGSV created a clever justification for BB "dying" in both MG1 and 2, but a ton of retards just wanted to see BB gunning down innocents or something in MGSV to make him a comic book villain.

I got filtered by the hospital intro, Jesus fuck I've never been so bored in my life.

based

To be fair to those people, BB is a drastically different character in MG 2 than he is in 3 or PW so I can Why they wanted to see something like that.

by peace walker's ending, he is literally the same dude you see in MG 2

for the same reason botw is a bad Zelda
for the same reason arkham city is worse than asylum

We already have a game showing Big Boss "going bad". Peace Walkers second ending with Big Boss' Outer Heaven speech.

>for the same reason arkham city is worse than asylum
anyone who unironically thinks Asylum is better hasn't played Asylum since it came out. Even City's smaller levels are better designed than anything in Asylum.

He really isn’t tho, he is just 3 BB with nukes, MG 2 BB is a Bond villain

im gonna give you the benefit of the doubt that you just kinda forgot the nature of MG2 BB's final speech. it tracks directly with his final speech in PW, about soldiers being used and existing for one purpose.
