I prefer modern games, but not because of graphics, but because I haven't played a game from the 90s that has kept me entertained for more than an hour or two at a time. They're just not that much fun. Indie stuff beat every single one I've played in gameplay.

I don't upgrade my computer because I have any interest in updated graphics, I update my computer out of obligation because I want to maintain high framerates on modern games. If every developer all at once decided to scale back their graphical advancements and focus on optimization to maintain high framerates I would probably be happier for it because I wouldn't constantly be worrying about having to spend hundreds on upgrades every few years to keep games as fun as I know they can be at smoother frames.

Yes, I do enjoy playing 20+ year old games at maximum graphics with 60-120 frames per second. I could even play multiplayer with my friends in the same room called a local area network(games nowadays don't have this feature)

All the best games are games that don't require a super computer. Anything that requires incredibly recent hardware to run isn't a game you see a lot of people praising and talking about. The most popular and established games are games you're not going to need anything amazing to play.
