Wasted potential the franchise

obviously bait but isn't dune 2 the grandaddy of rts?

Wasted?
Wasn't Star Wars more than partially based on this book or whatever it is?

what a boring movie

Good movie-based games are a thing of the past now, OP

>Movie based

Zoom zoom

i was thinking about this this morning,
but action rpg or anything similar would be movie kitsch shit. 4X might be the ebin sophisticated choice for grown up star wars

Yeah, besides great cinematography and sound design this movie was hot garbage. It's somehow a more boring star wars.

Lucas ripped off a lot of shit when he made Star Wars. Dune, Samurai movies, Star Trek, ect

You got filtered. Dune was never an action heavy series.

Warhammer 40k too

>wasted
I think the word you're looking for is "underrated".
"Wasted" would imply so much people made Dune games that no one wants them anymore

It's medieval feudalism in space, the games would make themselves, you don't even have to adapt the novels directly, just do a post Scattering world where you choose a faction and fuck shit up

There's a good game in a setting heavily inspired by it, forgot the name though. Also there were a bunch of good point and click adventure games in it's setting.

What is up with the soundtrack man?

Dune is some of the oldest sci Fi ever made so you'd be hard pressed to find a series that wasn't inspired from it

first game was actually an adventure, and there was also a 3d action-adventure/stealth game. Plus a few MUDs at least. There is more than the westwood RTS games.

why do people love sand planets in sci fi so much

Bro, you didn't play its best vidya adaption?

>shitty rts
I'll have you know that DUNC 2000 and Emperor battle for DUNC are ludo

I didn't care much for the book and thought the 80s film was like a 3/10 and the recent one a 1/10, but it would make a decent setting for a Lost Planet type game.

What happened to Gurney? Why is Yueh a woman?

What's the difference between inspired and ripoff?

Inspired borrow some elements whereas ripoffs take almost all of them

The little action it had was horrible. The movie just doesn't move. You barely know or care about anything by the end anymore than you did when you it started

Thank god Sci Fi was invented in the 60s, what would we have done without it?

An example

Anime is inspired by Disney but it's not a ripoff of Disney

>Part one

I said some of the oldest retard, I didn't say it was the oldest.

I didn't read the book first and I felt like I knew what was going on fine. The only thing that it didn't explain well that it should have was the concept of Mentats.

Not even close user.

Why are there no gundams in this movie?

Ah yes, some of the oldest in the 60s, as old as HG Wells that predates it by a century. Or whatever the actual oldest Sci Fi is, probably 300 years ago

Kinda yeah

Mary Shelly predates Verne by a couple decades and would argue frankenstein is the first modern sci-fi novel.

SOME of the oldest you retards. Are any of you capable of reading comprehension?

Frankenstein is horror. Calling it sci fi is an insult

>Why is Yueh a woman?
She's not, wink wink.

Behind the Dune is unironically a very good porn game.

And the bottle of 2 year old red in my cupboard is SOME of the oldest wine.

>last movie adaptation filled to the brim with niggers
>despite the original material being touareg wank already so the brown quota was already more than filled
Yeah, gonna wait another two decades before I start getting hopes again for Dune.

Back then I played a stealth action game based on Dune. It was on PC but I think it was also released for PS2.
I didn't like it.

>desert planet is filled with people with darker skin
Are you confused why the middle east and africa are filled with black and brown people too?

how do i play it without flash

I much as I loved it when I was a kid, it aged like milk.
And Dune 2 only *very* superficially follow the franchise and as barely any of what made it interesting as a SciFi setting.
I remember kid-me raging about how it had barely anything in common with the book (outside of lot of sands and shit).

her transition went really well! dont make this thread a shitflinging fest learn to process a joke

Damn I never knew books could be only one genre. Thanks user!

You do understand Arabs and Niggers aren't the same thing despite both living in Africa and sharing some melanin levels, right?

Behind the Dune is pretty good, certainly much better than porn parodies are supposed to be

>travel the galaxy
>trillions of human
>super weapons and space ships
Hey let’s send a tiny 1,000 man army to fight 50 dudes with spears in a city small enough to walk across in an afternoon.

>DUNC 2000
Is literally a C&C reskin.
A nice one, but still pretty soulless.

>doesn't understand shields

Because it's not dune anymore

Attached: maxresdefault (2).jpg (1920x1080, 119.55K)

Actually it's opposite star wars. The protagonist becomes space Hitler-Muhammed and kills 60+billion people.
The reason the movie is boring is that you're not meant to empathize with or like any character in the story.
I understand why that is, but it makes for a shitty story in the end.

You can't bomb arrakis properly or you damage spice.
You can't use projectiles on shields.
Nukes would just break the shield permanently and cause the desert storms to fuck up the city.

The whole purpose of those attacks was removing the Duke, his family and his elite followers from the empire. Anything bigger than a skirmish is counter productive.

One of the main point of the settings it that the Guild is bottlenecking space travel hard. And that it would become even worse if they ever lose their Spice supply lines.
"The Spice Must Flow" ain't just a middle-manager slogan: the entire galaxy will literally be sent back to pre-space flight era if Spice mining stop for too long.
Having SciFi conflict be reduced to sending a handful of assassins, or having to manage invasions with a few thousand troops is a part of what make Dune more interesting than SciFi settings #5435.

Whiter than you.

Dune Spice Wars isn't shit though.

It also cost the Baron a fucking ton to ship what he did have, like 80% of his wealth was used in that attack.

ban lip filler
