Boomers actually paid money to be able to save game progress

did boomerkeks really? lmao

yeah i did

imagine getting a playstation for christmas and finding out that you need to convince your parents to buy another thing to let you play the games.
At least nintendo 64 had most games with internal saves
(but fuck rayman 2 for requiring a memory pack)

>boomers paid extra just for shaky controllers

Attached: rumblepack.jpg (498x413, 10.99K)

yeah it was awesome. literally portable hard drives before zoomies even knew what xanax was and long before they started oding on it

>64mb
look at the city slicker with his fancy memory card

>all the memories where 8MB MAX at launch so you had to buy more

>came with star Fox
No I didn’t

>tfw played for 3 years without a memory card, replaying the same early levels on multiple games. specially GTA:SA
>tfw later on I had like 5 memory cards because some fucking games decided to use 7/8mb
fucking sony.

Memory cards were awesome. Nothing like going over a friend's house for multiplayer and bringing your memory card with all your saves. I know retarded zoomers only know about flavor of the month online games so they wouldn't understand.

>64MB
You think you’re fucking better than me?

>the sims games took up an entire memory card

>boomers actually paid for cheats

I paid for this to be able to play Perfect Dark 64 and Majora's Mask.

i remember when i finally beat all the event matches in super smash bros melee to unlock final destination and bringing it over to my friends' places. that shit was great

>after market memory cards have big enough storage so memory becomes a non issue
Late adapters to 6th gen lucked out hard

DK64 baby.

A lot of early PS1 games had password saves.

zoomers don't even have friends, let alone go to their houses

>unlocking actual content
Can't remember that last decade I played a game with that feature, it hurts

>he didn't get it for free with Donkey Kino
your own fault

unlocking the cheat codes in goldeneye 64 was fun as fuck, i wish more games did cheats like that

Didn't the PS2 come with one for free? They were cheap anyway.

back then-
want more ram, buy this add on

now-
want more ram, buy your whole console again but now the pro version

Did they really built the N64 with an expansion slot with the foresight they they were going to need more memory for certain games, and that they'd just charge extra for it when the time came? What fucking jews

I never had these problems on my og xbox haha

>Zoomers actually pay money to be able to store their games

The alternative was passcodes that you had to memorize, or else a small bit of memory built in to the game cartridge itself that would erase if the battery ever died or jostled loose.

in the SNES days, games that needed more processing power had to build it into the cartrdige and the game would cost more because of it.

those big memory cards had tons of issues with games. i recall one of the sonic games wiping all memory cards that were not standard sony 8mb.

yeah for some reason some PS2 games don't work well with the 32MB ones

1st game I thought about when I wrote that. I remember I would also makes deals with a friend that I would give him my 100% Melee and Sonic Adventure 1&2 save data in exchange for games he didn't really play like Billy Hatcher, Hulk Ultimate Destruction, and Metal Gear Solid 3 Subsistence 2nd disc.

i think anything 32mb and under was fine

Snoy problems

gamecube had even more jewish memory cards

It was pretty jew but it also had the benefit of just easily being able to take your saves wherever you wanted with no hassle. No fucking signing into accounts bullshit or paying for some service that should be free. So yeah, it was jew but it was also 1000x less jew than what we have now for literally the same thing.

I had an Xbox that gen so not my problem, got to play all those kino Gamecube games when the Gamecube 2.0 came out

To bad 90% of the 3rd-party high capacity memory cards on sale right now are all the unstable fuckhuge 64MB+ ones.

It's why I never beat rayman 2

>be zoomie
>buy xanax on darkweb
>overdose on fentanyl

>oh you the cart was gonna save your progress?
>lol
>lmao

Attached: Turok2box.jpg (376x265, 32.8K)

such a cool thing, shame it only worked with pokemon stadium games

Attached: transfer pak.jpg (236x214, 4.85K)

My first thought between games then and now is the Spider-Man 1&3 movie games. In the first 1 if you 100% it or used a code you got Green Goblin as and extra character with extra moves and a slightly different story. When 3 came out Goblin was on disc dlc that had like 3 shitty moves and could only fly around in the city.

>64mb
yeah i paid 1$ for that memory card since it wasn't official hardware and never even filled half of it

Playstation 2 HDD expansion allowed creating back ups of memory cards to the hard drive. doubt many had that or used it but it was there.

>oh you thought the game that keeps track of your gained experience, has online events with unlockable skins, and forces you to use our shitty launcher just because you bought it on humble store where it was cheaper than on steam was going to have cloud saves?
>lol
>lmao

>oh you the cart was

Yeah but I bought the memory card for the gamecube 20 years ago and it still works, and will continue to to work 20 years from now. And my RE4 saves from 2005 are still on it. Will your sony DLC still be working 20 years from now?

bro loading in your own pokemon and seeing them on the screen in 3D was awesome, in the original sense of the word. i couldn't believe what i was seeing.

Paying for storage exists even today.

The expansion bay was also only added in later revisions too, if you had an earlier PS2 you were SoL

You laugh but I still have my original saves from 20 years ago and I can use them on any PS2 with no hassle. I'd like to see your PS5 do the same thing.

Ah shit ya got me, better leave the thread.

i bought the game and it was done with all the content in the game. go ahead and spend 19.99 on gameshekels though.

YOU NEED TO SAVE ALL THE CHILDREN TUROK

It just made me laugh.

and you still needed a memory card. only select few titles, mostly very late ones, allowed saving directly to hard drive.

the first ps2 had a pcmcia slot but I doubt anyone has ever seen one let alone owned it, it didn't last long.

>expansion memory RAM
Yet can’t play CPS-2 port?

>start-up intro changed based on how many different games you saved, and how large the save was for each game
>each game had its own save icon

Why don't we get soul like that anymore?

Attached: r5ugnnc1qo571.jpg (4000x3000, 1.55M)

Nowadays zoomers buy memory cards just to INSTALL their games.

>dad thought you needed a memory card for each game
>bought like 5 or 6 memory cards before realizing
Was cool I got to have my own memory card that I didn't have to share with anyone, but man I don't know how he somehow misunderstood that. This was even back in 2001 when they were still pretty hard to find

My car had one of those slots as late as 2010, useless pieces of shit
At least some chinks made an SD card adapter for it so it got some use

Not exactly, there were Atari’s that did the same thing the PS4 and PS4Pro did in the 80’s but I wish they stopped that shitty trend nowadays.

Casltevania!!

Give me one. My dad thought they were scams so I was forced to leave my PS1 running all the time

there's an adapter that lets you use a CF flash to PCMCIA, its godlike for ancient laptops and in Win95 you can hotplug it.

>this buckbreaks the fragile zoomer mind

Attached: wd_wdbdff0020bbk_wesn_2tb_gaming_drive_1448282.jpg (1000x1000, 71.43K)

The Xbox had memory cards though

yeah fuck that, i think it came with one but it was so tiny you could only fit like 2 saves on it. i'm probably exaggerating but i remember it having very little storage

pokemon stadium was fucking legendary. the gameboy tower thing where you could play it on fast forward was mind blowing

And their most popular use was hacking the console for anyone who was too chickenshit to hotswap the IDE cable

>boomers actually paid money to be able to save game progress
You think that consoles now are including storage for free? That stuff is considered into the price you moron.

It says right there on the box you'll need a memory pak

now they charge money for cheats, i mean, microtransactions :^)

Lament of Innocence, a good one.

Lol no I didn't, PC ftw.

Did your hard-drive materialize into your build at no cost?

Based, PS2 boxes even had room inside specific for them. Good times.

I don't have to imagine, because that was me. Except it wasn't christmas.
And the only game that I got was FF7.
The first JRPG I had ever played (other than Pokemon).
Took me like a month before I finally beat that fucking scorpion bot in the first reactor. Left the game on overnight and my dad turned it off because he thought I left it on by accident.
