It has plenty of games. What you mean is few exclusives. You'd be right there. But it's not the old days anymore either. It was already looking bleak in previous gens, but it's starting to really to show now. Unless you're developing stuff that costs half the price like Nintendo or you're literally a multi trillion dollar company like MS/Apple/Google, there just isn't going to be much.

Goes for the entire industry. Another result of that is that every storefront is pumped full of terrible shovelware. Ratalaika, eastasiasoft, gamuzumi, breakthrough gaming and SMOBILE are the kind of devs and publishers that dominate the market now. It's kind of sad to think that when it comes to quality vs garbage ratio Apple Arcade is the leading storefront on the market.

i'd love to see more mid range titles on consoles. you could still push visuals to AAA levels, but they don't need to be movieshit.

Arcade is pretty nice and has a good bunch of quality titles, the main issue is that people still confuse mobile games with the shit that came out years and years ago. With screen sharing to TV and a controller it's basically a console, does the same shit as Switch but better and also has the better running versions of games they share. Arcade games must generally also run on iPad and Macs so they cannot exclusively have touchscreen features and Apple strictlly forbids any form of mtx in games that are published on Arcade. In a few years I think people will take it more serious.

The Japanese stuff (what little there is from PS4) is the saving grace for me. I skipped the PS4, so it's nice to have around for that. I play the occassional cross plat PS5 stuff (Tony Hawk) so I'm having fun with that too.

Graphics. The kind of game so powerful that you need the PS5 to run it are in short supply. Most of the games that are that powerful can also run on a PS4 by lowering the graphics settings or resolution and dropping the FPS from 60 to 30. So game companies make sure their game is backwards compatible with PS4 and it's massive install base.
So while shortages are slowing the transition to PS5, people with a PS4 have no big rush to upgrade when all the new games come out for a console they already own. Sony sees no reason to push the PS5 hard since they make little money on the hardware and because PS4 users are still in their ecosystem and will probably eventually get a PS5 in time.

I've tried that many times. I'm extremely unlucky I guess.

Nah, at the very least Nintendo puts out filler games like Mario Golf or New Pokemon Snap or Switch Sports interspersed with their bigger releases like Splatoon 3 or BOTW2. Sure those games don't do well as the BOTWs/Elden Rings of the gaming world, but at least the Switch gets something new every month.
