Here's one, Xenoblade X is the best Xenoblade game, and the gameplay is unrivalled.

The characters and dialogue in 99% of games is extremely poor. Most of the games lauded for their stories are on par with a straight to dvd movie. I don't know if it's the writing, the voice acting, the person directing them or what. The ratio of good writing to fan fiction tier schlock is way higher than other mediums.

I mean there are games with kick ass lore and world building, but then the moment to moment storytelling is like, holy shit who the fuck are they paying to write this? Hire a god damned novelist or something, how much could it cost? You spend millions of dollars on these games.
