It all stems from people becoming poisoned by irony and refusing to take anything sincerely, and mocking anything that did. This poisoning happened with around the rise of YouTube, and I think pic related explains a lot about why, In addition, I also think the generation from this period were largely taught something along the lines of "when you grow up, you realize the things you liked as a kid weren't as good as you remember" and took it to an extreme where they assumed everything they liked as kids had to be shit.
