don't rush through anything because the game is 100% backtrackable.

And when I say 100%, I mean 100%, you have to actually walk back.

yeah dont play

Yeah play X instead

Hard pass on that shit before it ruins your view of the FF like it did everyone else.

Make sure to thoroughly explore everything, I usually do so that's fine.
You sure got me.
I played X a decade ago after playing Dissidia and the distinct lack of Jecht relevance left me with a sour taste. Might replay it again at some point.
I liked XV though, my taste is already trash.

just play the first one

there's a hidden mechanic where changing formation refills your atb bars, with a cool down of 12 seconds. But the first time you select a formation in battle it has a longer animation to change to it, which should be accounted for. Also characters take less damage while in the sentinel role so setting up a paradigm of all sentinels and switching to it when an enemy attacks and then changing back is a good way to mitigate big attacks.

You can't change party makeup until 9-10 chapters in

Every first paradigm shift in a fight gives you a full atb gauge and every 12 ish seconds you get a free atb refill when you paradigm shift.

Play somewhere comfy so you'll be in a good spot when you inevitably fall asleep.

there is no strategy to paradigm shifts once you figure out the optimal way to play so dont look that up because as soon as you do the combat loses all depth

Get ready for several hours of Hope being a faggot.

Use Fang as your playable character ASAP.

Well the thing with XIII is the strategy is mainly in shifting paradigms of the party for the right situation. They say it "plays itself" but that's not quite right, it's just you operate on the more macro level, though the micro actions of the party member you control can still be important. It takes a long time for everything to unlock but personally I liked it, I felt like I had mastered the system by the time I reached pulse, if I had been thrown it all at once it would have been a bit overwhelming.
XIII-2 lets you shift party members in combat so you have more control on the micro level but it's still basically the same combat.
I could not play Lightning Returns, a constant timer just stresses me out.

use cheat to max out your level and make all items reach maximum value. cheating? yes but the game is trash and it stops your progress until you beat a boss then finally you can level up. this just to avoid the headache of farming shit and grinding for few extra stats increase. also the game is shit anyway that should deserve to play it fairly.

buffs and debuffs are actually useful

The combat is actually better than most FFs but the gameplay surrounding it is poor
You get back your entire ATB bar by switching paradigms after 12 seconds and should build your paradigms around always switching at exactly this mark to maximize uptime
The story isn't that bad but the characters are mostly obnoxious (although about the same as many other FF characters) and the 60-70% of the story is told by having you only play with a fraction of your party members at a time with limited movesets
all that being said, if you can handle playing other FF games, it's really not THAT much worse.

I've played worse games than FF13 but I can't think of any that have left me more bored. I've tried twice to beat this game but there's just nothing compelling that makes me wanna go on. I wish you luck but I couldn't do it.

Once you reach the main area of the game (You'll know) then under no circumstances do you complete all the missions until you have farmed the Adamantoises for their Platinum Ingots to sell otherwise you will be forced to grind the only one in the game afterwards. This is assuming you want to 100% the game. Finishing the missions replaces every single one in that area with significantly harder Long Guis that are a nightmare to kill by comparison.

Some of the weapon upgrades were retarded and It can be a bitch to make money if you don’t know what encounter drops what item.
Full combat system literally doesn’t unlock until you get to Gran Pulse, this takes some time. So expect that shit.

you can't switch party members until 20 hours in
you run down hallways
the conflict between hope and snow is pointless
it's better than 15 but a meh game

the timer in 13-3 isn't that bad to deal with. You get the option to freeze it by fighting battles, so you can keep it locked for pretty much as long as you want.

I feel that user as long he isn't claiming that he thinks the timer is actually difficult/a problem. I played LR and had the timer frozen nonstop and had plenty of extra time, but still was anxious the entire time. I knew from the beginning it wouldn't be a problem and I would end up with more time than I needed, timers simply inherently stress me out.

this, your max level is limited progression anyway so you can't really overlevel, you're just bypassing the grind.

You don't need any tips. It's one of the only JRPGs that forces you to completely understand the combat and be really good at it, or else you will not pass certain parts. It teaches you slowly over the course of several hours. Be ready for a lot of cut scenes and long battles, even for reg mobs, but in exchange for not many fights.

It's good.

XIII = LR > XIII-2

>another fag who didn't play the missions
This isn't even true for some bosses and even reg enemies.

Like shit, 99% of RPGs is literally x to win + potions 99% of the time, yet XIII of all JRPGs is what constantly gets that criticism.

I got up to the final boss and felt underlevelled, despite not needing to grind for the rest of the game. The grinding in the area before the boss also felt super slow due to the long battles.

Have I done something wrong or is this normal?
Also why are people saying 12 is better than 13-2. I liked 13-2 better, at least from a gameplay perspective.

Play it. I put it off because of that but then I just forced it and after several hours you get comfortable and understand it and aren't gonna worry. I did every quest on my first playthrough and finished everything on Day 9 of 14. I did min/max a bit though and restart saves when I didn't know what to do for a while and then do it over fast. That's is a method to get around your anxiety.

Sorry bro you got it the wrong way around it's 13-2>LR>13 you can't beat the music, the end game content, instant paradigm shift and monster party member. Though it does to be fair assassinate Lightning's character.

This game killed the franchise for me

It's really not that bad. XIII-2 is definitely the most fun of the three.

>t. Serahshitter
XIII-2 is spin-off portable tier. Shit protags/antags and stupid pokemon system that takes away more control than having 3 characters. Also dumb ass time travel shit which is 99.9% of the time retarded.

It's ok, but it's easily the worst.

Yeah basically that. Like in Majora's Mask, I know logically the timer isn't a big deal, but a ticking clock just gives me anxiety regardless.

From what I remember (and I haven't played since launch) Orphan has the highest HP of all final bosses by a long shot and the timer part fucks with people if they can't dish out DPS fast enough. Its easier by switching to Fang.

Back when I enjoyed video games I loved XIII as a kid. Although, I could not for the life of me get through XIII-2 and didn't bother with LR

It's pretty straightforward and easy to follow

It also felt really nice mastering the paradigm system

I think Fang was in my team, but it's been ages since I played. I think my final team was Fang Sahz and someone else.

personally enjoyed it, Lightning would feel some anxiety about the world ending after all..
Sometimes in jrpg’s it’s natural to just want to take shit slow, check out the scenery etc and I think the game loses those ‘comfy’ moments in place of tension.

Quit

Organic upgrade materials give poor experience but increase Multiplier, Synthetic remove multiplier but give a lot of exp so stack Organic and when you have a nice multiplier use Synthetic ones.

You've mistaken who the main character is. Sarah is just there for the ride Noel is the one with actual connections to the core characters for 13-2. You also can't say Caius is a worse villain than Orphan, Orphan may just be the worst FF villain period.

Lightning is best girl.

Fang for damage, Lightning for Speed, Hope for magic. Sahz and Vanille useful in certain situations.
Snow’s a bit of waste.. I mean in the whole series not just ff13.

First 16 or so hours is on rails so you cannot really do anything to improve the experience.
Have fun.

>entire crux of his story is that he can't kill himself
>kills himself in the ending anyway
wow great story, what a worthwhile journey

So Chrono Trigger is now shit? Excuse me?

I'll remember that if I want to revisit.

I've been seeing a lot of pro- (or at least not anti-) XIII sentiment here recently, and I have to agree: it's a decent game with some high points. Maybe it's because XV was so shitty. Not even a zoomer - I've been playing FF since the first one on NES - but there's something about XIII that's kind of nostalgic.

Fall in love with Claire

Don't worry, here in 5-6 years after XVI has been out for a bit you'll see more people comfortable coming out of the woodworks saying they liked XV.
I liked XV, pic related, but I also played it more as an adventure game with the bros than an actual RPG.

>in 5-6 years
FF15 is as old as FF13 was when XV launched.

its overrated

Chrono Trigger is the one time ever time travel wasn't shit.

It's an okay rollercoaster. There's some retard going around and preaching about how the game's combat is actually really deep and technical but unless you're doing superboss shit it's completely unnecessary and you can beat the game using the same party setup with the same paradigms and the same autobattling all the way through once you can select your party.
You need 5 braincells to know what paradigms to use and when to switch them, otherwise just turn your brain off and enjoy the art design and music until you get bored.

Yes and there's been no new game to shit on since.

The important part of Caius being the antagonist is his relationship to Noel above all else like it is with Jecht and Tidus. His goal comes second to what he means to Noel. Orphan has no emotional reaction and just sort of exists in the last half. You can go with the opposite of Caius and Jecht and have it work like with Vayne who you have no relationship with but he is ultimately more just than the heroes.

play XIII-2
skip any cutscenes that has Lightning

Attached: 1621142642828.jpg (1920x1080, 280.39K)

13 and 13-2 are pretty fun games.
For 13-2, there's a clock puzzle solver that I recommend you google once you get to those parts. It's very tedious and there's a lot of them.

uninstall

The demo of XV soured me when I got locked in an endless battle until the OP bullshit wolves spawned.

I only tried it out when the Windows/Legendary edition came out (I learned my lesson from Destiny) and had a good time. It's a shit RPG but if you treat it as an action game in the vein of like a God of War it's fun.
The bro chemistry is fun to watch, and the world is fun to play around in.
Apparently the second half was way worse in the original, and characters just disappearing in DLC you had to buy was awful. Legendary has the DLC included, and added an entire dungeon to the last bit of the game.
I'm not gonna say it magically fixes problems you had with it, but don't let the demo experience ruin it for you.

>besides not playing
no lol

>any tips to save myself a headache?
No
You chose to suffer, now suffer

Lightning...it flashes bright, then...fades away. It can't protect...it only destroys...
