Is the series dead now that the DS is dead?
Apparently there was more news about it not too long ago but it was in a twitter post so I ignored it
>What's your opinion on the series?
Currently enjoying Nexus, it's my first EO
>Favorite classes?
The 4 I picked and haven't changed from at the start of the game and the one I didn't pick at the start but replaced one of my first choices with soon after
>Favorite stratum?
youtube.com
>What's your opinion on the series?
Peak turn-based JRPG gameplay and a defining example of the KISS principle that more games need to learn from.
>Favorite classes?
Anything that takes several turns of buildup for a huge damage payoff, like Imperial.
>Favorite stratum?
Cyclopean Haunt.
> Is the series dead now that the DS is dead?
I wouldn't mind it dying because it had a great run and honestly I feel like they're running out of fresh takes on the class archetypes they've maintained throughout the series.
Also the games would lose part of their identity and appeal without the manual map-drawing. I could live with it since I enjoy the games for all of their aspects and not just the mapping, but it would be a downgrade.
My favorite class in the nin-nin from 3. It helps that the clone ability is broken as hell. And she's cute to boot.
What’s the KISS principle?
keep it simple, stupid
the composer posted a EO next announcement on his twitter
pokemon?
>What's your opinion on the series?
This series has ruined other RPGs for me. I do not give a shit about stories and when I get to the combat I wish I was playing etrian and start thinking how to improve the classes to make them more fun to play
>Favorite classes?
Design wise: Arablist
Skill wise: Imperial
>Favorite stratum?
Oh man there are so many that are amazing
>lost shinjuku
>Petal Bridge
>Porcelain forest and cyclopean haunt
>the capital from 4 (it was short but the music was simply amazing)
Surprisingly I didn't like any of the fifth game strata that much, the necropolis with pink floyd music was cool I guess but nowhere near my favorites.
Also I will always be mad that nexus included way too many fucking forests.
GIMMIE SWITCH COLLECTION YOU YELLOW BASTARDS
ETRIAM IS RECLINING
Best Japanese DRPG, bar none
Petal Bridge, Lost Shinjuku,Forbidden wood, Cyclopean Haunt. Need to play the rest after the burnout.
>Is the series dead now that the DS is dead?
yeah, but nor for the reasons you think. Sure manual map drawing going away sucks but that was just a part of something more- what the series has always been about. roleplaying. immersion. There is no story in these games because its up to you to come up with one as you go. Zoomies call that "bad game design".
Now, overly powerful shonen protags and his eternally thirsty harem are all the rage, and I'd rather let the series die than become fucking mary skelter
uhhhh bro did you forget about story mode?
Ariana was hot at least
I try to. Untold stories were hot garbage.
Keep It Simple, Stupid.
What i'm essentially saying is that one of EO's best qualities is that the depth of its gameplay comes from good class and enemy design rather than overcompensating with overly complex layered mechanics, which is a rabbit hole too many other RPGs fall into.
The options presented to you on a surface level aren't that complex at all. Attack, Skill, Defend, Items, Run, the foundational quintet of JRPG combat, with your standard limit break meter and Switch to mess around with your party members' formation. There's no ATB gauge, no positioning-based mechanics beyond the two rows, no Grandia-style turn order manipulation, no abilities locked behind tertiary activities, etc. It's all very basic and highly accessible.
The depth in combat and decision-making comes through in the form of class-building and enemy variety. Your classes start off simple and easy to understand but gradually unlock more complex abilities and give way to tons of emergent class synergy. While the enemies you encounter will have very clearly defined roles that synergize much in the same ways your own parties do. You'll have enemies with high defense that cover for high-damage casters, enemies that deal head binds paired with enemies weak to elemental damage and so on/
The complexity of the game's combat comes not from multiple confusing systems and upgrade trees you have to juggle, but from the parallel evolution of the abilities of both your party and the enemy's parties, which is far more natural and easy to get accustomed to. It also pairs nicely with the game's mobile nature as a portable game, since treks into the dungeon are very easy to set up and accomplish in short spans of time, such as when riding the bus.
there's story on the games.
Hero
why is it so hard, is every floor an uphill battle, or just the early game?
that's just atlus games in general, once you level up and get some skill points the difficulty curve should plateau
but yeah, you're not meant to fight EVERYTHING. stay away from FOEs
>What's your opinion on the series?
Very good stuff.
>Favorite classes? Dark Hunter, Gladiator, Nightseeker
>Favorite stratum? Abyssal Shrine, Auburn Thicket
>Is the series dead now that the DS is dead?
Well they seem very insistent that they still have something in the works so I guess not. But new games will probably be quite different.
>What's your opinion on the series?
Dead. Also 5 and Nexus weren't up to par.
>Favorite classes?
Hexer.
>Favorite stratum?
Lost Shinjuku
>Is the series dead now that the DS is dead?
Nothing stopping them from making a spiritual successor or something like that on the Switch, but EO as we knew it on the DS/3DS aren't gonna be a thing I believe.
Is this correct for the EON cheese team?
Ronin, Tank Hero, Ronin
Princess, ?
F O E
F O E
F O E
early game difficulty is very party dependent. If you don't have naturally tanky classes you'll have trouble until you get a couple levels.
more like Etrian PEDOdyssey
>There is no story in these games because its up to you to come up with one as you go.
There's plot in the series, even EO1 had one that Untold ended up fucking up somewhat, to say nothing of EO3.
any class recs for etrian 3? I have a few farmers, Hoplite, Princess, Monk , Arbalist
For me, it has to be the Necromancer. Riding into battle on her giant zombie worms.
Arbalist combos and other follow ups are the attacks that are gonna carry you in the late game and post end game dungeons
What would the story in a theoretical for Untold 3 be about? And what class from 4 would be used in the party?
>And what class from 4 would be used in the party?
Imperial. I seriously don't think there's any other option.
you run into the Untold 2 gang and U2 MC is a super boss
Brown Hero
The same story that was in 1 and 2 Untold with a landschneckt as the waifu
What if the 4character was Logre himself?
I don't think the same exact story will work for a space tree.
Bandana Landsnack is perfection.
Even in my vietnamese basketweaving forum
Dancer
Absolutely based
Bunnies
>Now, overly powerful shonen protags and his eternally thirsty harem are all the rage
So how is life back in the 90s user? looking forward to the N64's release?
Is Iosys even alive still?
make the female lead a bushi you fucking cowards
I dunno, it'd work fine on PC, drawing with a mouse is easy. I think at the very least it'd be nice to get an EO3U before it dies.
Arcanist, always Arcanist.
I rather not have any EOIV class and instead you have both U1 and U2 parties. Both sides represent Armoroad or Deep city.
no furries allowed
Boy hero is cuter
Shonen is still en vogue moetranny, if you don't believe me look at the top thread on Yea Forums all day every day
I'll give you a hint, it's a 3 letter general
You gay?
best sticc
retard, i'm making fun of you for implying that's something "new" that has changed since Etrian Odyssey first began. Shonen harems have pretty much always been a thing nonstop.
how can a person be so wrong The linker boy from IV is the cutest
How's the cunny?
I'm not you fag, your post implied that he was living in the 90s and thus shonen wasn't popular in the modern day as a juxtaposition, if that weren't the case then why even bring it up in the first place, dumbass?
No shit shonen is still popular, of course real nigga shonen isn't about harems the most popular series were never about that garbage.
That's a lot of proyection.
Learn to read then retard, his post said Shonen's popularity NOW would ruin Etrian Odyssey when it hadn't before. the only way a normal person could interpret that is that he thinks Shonen harems are a newly popular thing that weren't popular in say the 90s, or the 00s. Otherwise why would they only now ruin Etrian Odyssey and not when the series came out over a decade ago?
Exquisite curve
>Bottle of sake for Yuzo Koshiro
>no bottle of sake for Yuji Himukai
I only have fear at this point.
Shonen harems are relatively new. I think you need to get a memory check user.
>the composer posted a EO next announcement on his twitter
Are you talking about that one time he twitted "next EO is going to be in (insert some Japanese town here). Just kidding lmao"? Because if so then that was obviously just a joke, made evident by when he said it was just a joke.
If you mean another twit then hit me up.
I was talking about shonen' harems popularity in JRPGS you absolute fucking retard.
>Otherwise why would they only now ruin Etrian Odyssey and not when the series came out over a decade ago?
Remind me again when those untold abominations came out?
