Daggerfall is dogshit. Even boomers knew it was dogshit. I don’t understand why Yea Forums pretends to like it so much. Is it for some kind of internet gamer cred for liking old games?

nah it's pretty fun

imagine needing an image to ahve an argument lol

I liked Daggerfall.

>some rando doesn't like Daggerfall
Daggerfall was very well reviewed.
web.archive.org/web/20020503044015/http://www.pcgamer.co.uk/games/gamefile_review_page.asp?item_id=279

of course it was. a open-world(wow!) rpg with fast travel from 1996? revolutionary!

unity fan port is better, once you start running into the ghosts you'll wish you had quicksave/quickload

Nah it sucks. but the soundtrack is pretty good

Reviewers good when it fits my narrative!

Nah, shit game.

I'm trying to prove this guy wrong in my head but I kinda can't.

I keep getting killed by the first enemy past the tutorial, even ignoring the imp that comes out of the door.

The original version had serious issues, but a lot of them have been fixed in the unity version at the cost of some of its charm.

Original DFall was rough but I had fun with it.
If you tweak the controls or just play the Unity version, it's a lot simpler to play.

DFall is okay but it doesn't hold your hand. You need to find your own fun within the system.

It is the worst game ever made you insufferable hipster.

No one would seriously believe that.

Dungeon crawlers filter plebs.

You either make a caster, or use the character creation backstory questions to start with an Ebony Dagger. Then you save before the imp room, and reload until you kill it with magic or dagger. I don’t think I’ve ever played the game without doing this.

Daggerfall is the best fantasy medieval life sim out there. Get's even better when you add roads and varied wild encounters. Not to mention adding survival mechanics.

NOOOOOOO
YOU CAN'T ENJOY BOOMERFALL

What about Elden Reddit??? Discord Souls??? Listen to this basedboy

Stop.

Its an obvious troll.
Use your head, this is Yea Forums at all

It isn't up for debate.

These are the ancient gods of the internet we should aspire to be more like. Well thought out opinions, and they're humble enough to tell the reader to make their own

Sneed.

Game is an absolute nightmare for someone who can't remember names. And with all the names except for the king and queen being procedurally generated makes it especially so. Also going in to a dungeon. You can pretty much kiss an hour goodbye as you randomly walk around to find the procedurally generated quest item you need to find.
t. I like buying strategy guides.

Nay, we must not. In fact, I think we express ourselves in writing a little too much. From now on we should only reply to each other with wojacks, afterall, it is an image board, not a text board.

Once you save a game in Daggerfall the clock is ticking until it shits the bed. Nobody knows when the game will shit the bed just that it will

The bar for what game is better starts with Does it have a functional save system

Daggerfall is bad at every single thing it takes to make a good video game.
Well the books are good.

because it was and still is a technical marvel, doesn't mean it's fun to play

Holy shit, I knew nu-Yea Forums was full of austistic sperg zooms but this thread is just something else.

Your childhood games that you loved sucked boomer. No getting around it.

I imagine in the 1800s there were kids on pig farms that had nothing to pkay with except the pigs They probably enjoyed rolliing around in pig shit with their friends.. They truly had fun but by todays standards it would cause them shame and derision. At least they didn't have to play Daggerfall though.

>i can't play the game literally forever because computers aren't magic
okay. i'm sorry that the programming in 1994 only let you play for hundreds of hours, not thousands.

Man. The entire record-setting bugs out the ass, mess of a game was procgen'd except for a handful of main quests and main areas. It was a technical achievement--Todd made a 3d Rogue game where stuff looked like stuff, like pixelated boobies looked like pixelated boobies, instead of it all being ascii keyboard characters--but it was a trash game.

Well that doesn't make the game not bad, does it? It still has the issue whether it's the fault of the game or not. And the game is supposed to be played for a long time so this is a really dumb thing to say, it's not like if you stood still in Commander Keen for 8 hours in the same place the game would eventually crash or something.

Always was.

>fun
Subjective
Continues to enjoy things that you don't

It was the poor coding on the save system.
They did nothing well. It is the worst game ever made.

Okay but there are plenty of games that actually do not work. Surely you would say Daggerfall is superior to a game like Big Rigs?

And there are plenty of games that are just absolute shit. Would you say that Ride to Hell is a better game than Daggerfall?
What about thousands of shitty flash games and shovelware titles. Is Wii Carnival Games better than Daggerfall?

The worst game ever made? Rubbish.

Subjective because the only thing that defines a good game is the amount of fun one has playing it
Continues to enjoy things despite you not enjoying them

another wave of newfags who want to look old school has just been born

I enjoyed Daggerfall. I played it for the first time after playing Oblivion and Skyrim, and before trying Morrowind. There are some bullshit moments, like the secret torch lever during the latter dungeon in the "main quest," and honestly, the dungeons in general are really fucking horrible if you're not aware of the recall spell. But I love the vastness of the game, the music, the huge variety of factions, and the small details like annual holidays, and not being the chosen one (or striving to become the chosen one). I also like how the game handled vampirism and lycanthropy, and how you're actually hunted for it by professionals. The world feels alive despite everything being more or less the same. I hope someone makes a similar kind of game someday that isn't so bugged, after beating it once I haven't had much reason to replay it but I thought it was a fun experience.

They may be just as bad as Daggerfall but I doubt it.
After the save game issue we get into 1/3rd of the skills doing exactly what they intend and still end up functionally useless.. The languages add nothing to the game.
The Character creation is just how broken do you want your game to be.

On no level , other than the books, did they do anything well

Nobody enjoyed it. Only hipsters claim to. They haven't even played it.

>generic uninteresting world with a horribly told story
>books are actually decently written
If this isn't the biggest red flag for "failed writing career" then I don't know what is

>It's actually good
No it fucking isn't. If you successfully made it out of the introductory dungeon you've seen 85% of what the game offers because it's just a dungeon crawl game. There's no sense of exploration because almost nothing is hand-placed, loot is almost entirely random, everything is levelled, there's just fucking nothing. The character creator is cool and if you don't mind repetition it's a solid dungeon crawler, but nearly every other aspect of the game is either broken, unfinished, or its finished state is so fucking barebones you wonder why they even bothered to include it in the first place.

The only things that are shit about Daggerfall are the dated controls and the samey visuals due to how needlessly huge the map is. The core mechanics are pretty fun otherwise and very open-ended

Attached: 8344E27D-A95A-48AD-A3CD-634EAB85D06C.jpg (3508x4961, 1.58M)

yep it's the only good Elder Scrolls game.

I just run away and escape the first dungeon, then level up doing random quests and eventually return to the home base

No? Why do you retards only speak in these absolute statements?
You're really going to pretend that Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim aren't good by nearly every subjective measure?
What's the point?

>Don't like randos
>Link literal randos

I normally just ignore the first imp, and you'll have the silver claymore for the second.

Misery loves company.

>even back in the daybthe internet was full of faggots who shitalked popular games and went “OLD VIDYA USED TO BE BETTER, VIDEOGAMES SUCKS NOW”
There always are going to be doomers, enjoy what you like without caring what faggots will say

I downloaded the Unity version but I couldn't play because the game is terrible. I'm surprised that there are so many people who are fans of this game. I personally can't associate anything in it with anything remotely resembling entertainment, and I'm not the most demanding guy in the world...

why did they get rid of the DND style character creator

Attached: 1571274054918.jpg (697x620, 55.61K)

This isn't a game that I'd recommend to everyone, and it might be the only game I can think of where I wouldn't begrudge someone using console commands (I mean, shit, it's basically necessary if you have bad luck with quest item spawn locations). I'll also say that I played the Unity version, and from what I understand, everyone should.

Still, if you have a heavy tolerance for jank, it offers a lot that you're not going to find anywhere else. The world is seriously vast and complex, and I'm amazed at how atmospheric it can be. Morrowind is still better tho.

>but I couldn't play because the game is terrible.
Why? What did you do?

>playing old vidya is…LE BAD
ok i will play the new saint row game instead if you want

Not even the completely random dungeons that can literally lock you out of the main quest if they spawn incorrectly? And that's only after the 3 hours you wasted exploring the labyrinth of dead end tunnels?
