I agree, that's sort of my point. Even as bad as it was for me, I think it's worse now because there's no spread, there's no variety, no learning curve, kids will almost never experience the danger of clicking on the wrong link (unless it's some basic phishing scam).
Everything is contained in a handful of sites and apps they will literally never stray from visiting. I know people who've never used google. Genuinely, honest to god never used google, cause "why would I? I just go on wikipedia or youtube or whatever". It's horrifying.
But that also means all the dangerous people have these spaces they can learn to exploit and control for their own purposes. It's so much easier to manipulate and trap someone mentally and emotionally in discord, or youtube, or twitter, than anywhere else, because they tie their entire identity up in these places, and when you control them there, they can't leave. It's not like being on some phpbb forum you could just not visit anymore and maybe lose 1 or 2 people you talked to, you're stuck with this fuckin creep stalking you and exploiting you and that's that.
The current world sucks for kids. That's why it's much more important to teach lessons on internet safety.

I got highspeed internet and was crawling forums since middle school and I turned out ok. Then again, I dont really use social media at all and even when I used to (facebook for keeping in touch with highschool friends after graduating), it never took over my life. But some people cant distinguish between online and real life and cant handle people being shitty. They shouldnt have unfettered access to teh internet.
