linux GAMING THREAD
Linux GAMING THREAD
Aka Steam Deck thread?
If you're not using AMD and running debian based, you're a mere tranny. simple as
What's the good beginner distro? Ubuntu still?
Ubuntu is a household name but they keep trying to innovate their own way, like GNOME is. Figure out what differentiates distros and make your own conclusion.
just played TAG,the power of paint.
cool to see the game that influences portal 2,but the FOV was almost unplayable.
yes
depends on what you want, but its hard to go wrong with linux mint (just remember stuff like drivers may be a bit older).
Does color profiles work in KDE? I tried applying the test profile that switches red and green and it did nothing. Only tried in KDE Wayland. Haven't tried in X11.
fedora, 36 is out next week
>linux had elden ring stutters fixed day one
>it's STILL not fixed on windows
Linux
its half-fixed on windows
which is almost worse honestly
At this point it might be a hardware issue, bro. All the stutters I had at the start are gone, people I play with with way worse hardware are also running stutter-free.
linux is for pedofiles
Wouldn't recommend it to beginners anymore because of their continued attempts to force snaps on people
New pass code lock screen is neat. However I think the latest update broke gamescope.
i started with arch
was fine
file age is just a number, and can be changed
Broke in the sense that it doesn't seem to be able yo apply a frame limit to certain games anymore.
nah its clearly devs not correctly using dx12
gimp has a circle tool though
this copypasta is wrong
Fuck EAC, that is all
Is there an easier way to send images on Steam chat on Linux? Drag and drop doesn't work and the file picker is pretty bad.
copy paste?
drag and drop works fine for me on i3
Media Foundation is a bigger plague than EAC.
Let's see a circle then
there's a way to force programs, specially browsers, to use the qt file picker instead of the AIDS gtk one, but I don't remember how to do it
O
ok
This is probably a stupid question, but how should I uninstall stuff I installed with wine? Even if I use innoextract instead of just double click on the installer it still appears in regedit.
What if I just delete the folder?
linux stutters were never removed, they're present on all ports of the game including consoles, shit still stutters for me on 1.04
>t. 6700XT user
anything it saved local to your prefix can be wiped by removing the directory it was using for the WINEPREFIX
>wine uninstaller
is not enough?
no stutters 100%'d the game
>t. 3090 user
Das 3 user come in
Ground control to das 3 user
I know you got cinders working on linux but i dont think it works on the proton version steam deck uses
It doesn't work for me either. There's a bug report for this so I just have to hope for Valve to fix it then.
github.com
Yes, it's the GTK_USE_PORTAL=1 environment variable, but it only works if the program supports it.
Honestly, I don't know.
I was on proton experimental (bleeding-edge)
steam deck should be able to pick that as a beta for experimental
well you're lying or just can't recognize them, streamers with 3090's are also stuttering
Pop!_OS is probably the easiest to install and use and is the most gamer friendly out of the box. Next would be Mint and Ubuntu. Stay away from Arch if you’re brand new as it’s not really made for noobs.
ubuntu is OK, but i'd recommend Linux Mint.
more important than the distro is just starting, you'll figure out what you do and don't like as you go.
>streamers
just don't stream
it was very sensitive to discord screenshare being active at least from what I saw
but that might just be because discord sucks ass
Install Gentoo
>too advanced for beginner distros like ubunto or popOS
>too lazy and casual for Arch
openSUSE it is
Maybe I'm installing it wrong. It is just a drag and drop same as windows right?
drag and drop files to game root (steamapps, not in wineprefix)
make sure launch command for DS3 has
>WINEDLLOVERRIDES="HoodiePatcher,dinput8=n,b" %command%
I installed Manjaro a few days ago and played Elden Ring. It stutters worse than windows on my pc. How do you fix them on linux?
Ubuntu's totally fine for starters, but if you want a more windows type DE you could grab a kde or cinnamon flavored distribution of it.
Zero stuttering for me.
>Arch
>5700 XT
>5800X
It was never a linux problem.
all the clicking in yast makes it seem like it isn't for the lazy
nigger they have their own stream pc, there's no load on the pc running the game
stop being disengenious, this is why people avoid this shit you retarded mongaloid, the game is programmed like shit, it's a fact because the ps5 and xbox versions suffer the same issues
context?
>specs
>kernel version
>gpu driver version
>proton version
I am using yast software.
And if too many packages ask me for checks i just do a refresh/dup and ok those vendor changes.
never used opensuse so that sounded foreign to me
they own software I like so I've had an interest in their distro, just never had a need to try it out for anything
this has been debunked
>dx12
This is the issue right here
uh I'm on windows right now but
>ryzen 1600 + gtx 1070
>kernal 5.15 I think
>driver is whatever proprietary driver manjaro installed
>experimental
I tried the non experimental latest and it kept crashing
yea
funny game runs fine on vulkan though :)
hm, normal experimental should have whatever fixed it by now; if not, you could try bleeding-edge since that's what I played the game on for its entirety
what do your settings for shader caching look like? since the issue was solve don steam deck by valve pumping out precached shaders for decks
the rest of us just get shaders from other gamers with like-hardware
there are more pedophiles using WIndows than Linux
>inb4 ratio
>inb4 statistics
copse, seethe and dialate
>Linus calls Nivdia bunch of retards
>"I wonder why he said that"
>Try to install and update Nvidia drivers on Arch
>"Ah so that's why"
Almost makes me want to switch to pure Red Team.
upgrade to 5.16 and replace pulse with pipewire
rebooting is that bad?
green
is
my
pepper
top fucking kek
It's simple.
yea but I just type a few words and I get the same thing :(
also
>taboo
still regular dark souls 3
i was able to install MO2 the other day thanks to the efforts of another user so at least i have that
I can also type but clicking is more comfortable.
I don't NEED a GUI - sometimes when conflicts exists or vendors change i simply use the konsole to fix everything but i like the fact that a GUI exists for this.
...
Not for me, because I don't have one yet.
I don't think GNOME is very good for former Windows users, so I'd recommend Mint or some other Ubuntu derivative instead.
I think anything installed using Wine will be installed to your Wine prefix, so just nuking the prefix will uninstall it for sure, and doing that is less of a problem if you go full bloat-pilled and use a separate Wine prefix for every program. Sometimes installing things with Wine also creates menu shortcuts (e.g. running GOG game installers with Wine has created shortcuts under ~/.local/share/applications/wine/Programs/GOG.com/ on my system), but those are easy to clean up separately if you know that user-owned menu shortcuts go under ~/.local/share/applications.
Does Mint support Wayland?
Okay this is what mine looks like
I'm new to all this so I'm not sure what pulse or pipewire is
Do you mean mint or the cinnamon desktop? Cinnamon I think so. Mint maybe not since it's ubuntu.
i figured out whats wrong a bunch of files from the cinders main wont extract for whatever reason
gamescope is a godsent for old games that have resolution limits of like 800x600
Feels good
driver version is 510.60.02
how does it help with those?
oh weird
maybe corrupted dl?
thanks nexus
>using lutris for emus
lmfao
Guys look gimp is a
Cute
i leave processing on so it'll crunch em in the background sometimes before I play
that's what I'm on so you should be good there
I know the game seemed really sensitive to cpu usage so perhaps the 1600x isn't meeting what it needs but it really should be good enough
my only experience is on a 5800x
also hi I'm playing the native linux version of the hottest new game
it effectively fakes an display so it can upscale itself to whatever resolution you want and can be run in window without fucking itself up
It's a regular 1600 overclocked to 3.6ghz so that could be a thing but like I said, it runs a little better on windows. I might fuck around with a different proton version
Which PS version is this?
>Got a new AMD GPU
>SteamVR is still a mess due to broken re-projection despite the massive performance increase and better drivers
>Motion smoothing is NOT an option despite seeing multiple posts here claiming it was
>Frame timings confirm my suspicion that SteamVR doesn't ask the GPU to upclock itself enough correctly and/or is lagging behind the auto-resolution upscaler on linux
>youtube.com
>There will NEVER be a year of the Linux desktop
it's over linuxbros, we lost, time to pack it up and leave
>t.
idk i installed it on my pc just fine
i got the files there at least i think unless even my zips are bad
HOLY FUCKING SHIT I JUST LOOKED IT WORKS user YOURE A FUCKING LEGEND
How are you running your photoshop?
I cannot find anything online to get it working correctly
user you might break them if they see this
