Haven't played it since it first came out. My friend at school told me the GBA game was better but I assumed he was just lying because he couldn't afford a DS.
Better than the shit main series.
Solid entry level dungeon crawlers.
One of the best things to come out of the franchise.
They ARE roguelikes
They're also fine, in a way they're more rogue"lites" because they're watered down but it's forgivable because they're pokemon games. Also very charming and better than the main games have been since HGSS.
A bit repetitive and clunky but otherwise surprisingly good.
The newer games add a lot of quality of life features.
Prob the best description
they’re just fun in the most simple and comfy way
the only pokemon games I still play to this day
god i wish that was me
I like the transformation isekai concept, but I don't like playing the games.
kino story
Explorers of Sky is still the best Pokemon Mystery Dungeon game
i think it's cool
Red Rescue Team is still the best PMD for GBA. You never need the 2nd screen in EoS anyways
Mediocre game but the overwhelming minority that likes it REALLY FUCKING LIKES IT
Makes the mainline games look like total shit in comparison.
fuck, please take me back

I don't understand how even this has become so expensive. 5 years ago you could get this CIB for 20 euros.
Really repetitive but I like how it's balancing is completely different from the main games (Parasect is super overpowered for example) so you can truly use any party member you want
The 99F dungeons felt truly daunting and as a kid it felt like the stakes were truly high every time I was progressing through one.
It's rich with backgrounds that have a great aesthetic and great music tracks

>player is transported to an idealistic world ripe for exploration, just modern enough to give the player a comfortable home to come back to after a long day of adventuring
>transformed into a cute or cool monster per your preference
>get a cute or cool partner who instantly becomes your closest friend and can easily be spun as a romantic interest
Is there a single piece of media that even comes close to the level of wish-fulfilment fantasy that PMD provides?
Anyone who played it growing up has disposable income now.
I remember almost selling my HGSS copy for like 50 when I was broke a couple years ago and I just past a 2nd hand store listing it for 100 last weekend. Shit is a bit stupid.
>Meandering around
>Party member gets insta-killed by Pitfall Trap
>Sit there for like 10 minutes trying to reflect on what just happened
Anyone else
>mfw finding that Ledaby is actually overpowered
>mfw finding that Smoochum is god tier
>mfw finding Drifblim is elder god tier
>can't evolve your mon until you beat the game
why do people like this
>postgame of BRT
>the wooper i've been playing as since the credits rolled is so OP now that nothing short of screech bullshit can scratch it
>escorting gengar through murky cave
>step on a pitfall trap, doesn't trip because I have Trap Seer
>before I can react I take another step
>Gengar walks onto the pitfall trap as he follows
>instakilled, reviver seeds do nothing against this
>mfw
It gives you more of a chance to connect with your character and allows them to emote more during the story because they don't need to prepare a shitton more sprites. The starters have a huge array of emotional sprites but the evolved forms have maybe a half-dozen. It also helps balance out 2-stage vs 3-stage evolutions for combat difficulty
evolving doesn't really do much for your stats, user. An evolution in EoS is only a +5 to your base stats and +10 to your hp, both are values you can simply use gummis, vitamins, or seeds to max out on even an unevolved pokemon.
Plus Feraligatr's sprite was fucking awful and i nearly instantly regretted evolving the second i finished RRT for the first time.
Too simplistic and too repetitive. Babby's first dungeon crawler.
this awakes memories of being over at a friend's house and resetting the game over and over til i get to play as Squirtle while he tells me to just play already. We would play pokemon games together all the time back then. nostalgia is so bittersweet
I remember making it all the way to the 93rd floor of Buried Relic and watching my presumed unbeatable Charizard get unavoidably ganked by a Golem's Rollout never missing
Good times
Same shit happened to me but with an Articuno. Rollout keeps hitting even after you die and revive.
yeah but some pokemon like Aron looks fucking stupid unevolved, since this is a babby's game I'd at least prefer to look at cool shit playing it
Not as good as the first one, but it's up there

>favorite starter is still only in 1 game, excluding hacks
it hurts
the best
>Having to draw thousands of portraits, 99% of which will never be seen on a single playthrough
Poor use of their work effort.
Anyway they did it anyway in Super and it probably killed them.
Then just draw portraits for the starter/plot related pokemans? I don't mind not seeing random poke#3817 tearful XD face
You carry Empowerment Seeds in case you encounter a sticky situation, RIGHT?!
only time i used one was in wish cave so i could cheese with mega sableye
Excellent game, never played the sequels for whatever reason. Didn't really enjoy the requirements to recruit some Pokemon but that's deep postgame completionist stuff.
>0.6% spawn rate on a single floor
>this is the only place you can recruit this thing
>it shows up in tutorial dungeon but that bans recruiting because fuck you
I have questions.
That's what I said. Imagine you have 20 starters tahn all have 5 expressions. That's 100 portraits. Now imagien these starters have evolutions, some of them two. That's now almost three times as much work. How many of these will be seen in a playthrough? Only those of your starter and partner, that is to say a very small fraction.
Meanwhile, if you draw some cool artwork, everyone's going to see that.
What do I do after I get Mew?
You use Mew's excellent level-up rate and ability to learn every move to complete Purity Forest and Wish Cave to go after Celebi and Jirachi
rescue team original had some fucking dumb pokemon to recruit. Chansey was on 4 floors in joyous tower, the earliest being 50f. At MAX, you have a 16.9% chance to recruit (6.9 base, +10 with friend bow, cant level up enough to get more bonuses) and it's got a .8% chance of spawning to begin with. And you need 2 of them, the second one needs to be IQ grinded to evolve
Ponyta is on floor 58 of the dungeon, is level 30 (extremely dangerous, as level has a massive effect on damage dealt/taken that's outside the stat formula) despite there being several fire dungeons where it'd fit.
Exeggcute not only does the shit you said, but the leaf stone is in a Wish Cave shop, but only on set floors. It got so bad that i had to grind wish cave runs to wish for new recruits
>purity forest mew
i'll stick with lonely courage Rock Head relicanth and head smash my way to victory.
this run ended with an entire page of unused reviver seeds, that's how busted he is
SEX
It's nice to have though.
>fire, water and thunder stones into the legendary beast dungeons that match the type
>slap sun stones (and moon stones) into solar cave
>leaf stones? lmao wish cave
There is no better video game series for isekai self-insert adventuring in a perfect world with a perfect best friend. :(
I always remove it on emulator so I can get fullscreen.
>vulpix and shinx
The first two entries of the series are great. Everything released after is shit.
3rd run, 1st was Pikachu and Chikorita and 2nd was Rilou and Eevee
I recruited Exeggcute and Exeggutor by abusing Jirachi wishes. No regrets
what's wrong about it?
>Super
>Shit
Confirmed tasteless pleb who got filtered by the tutorial.
Loved this questline
I recruited those two, chansey line, ponyta line, 1 unown on accident, and evos that would take too long like dragonite. Did this shit so much that i had runs down to a science.
Gates is underappreciated
It was outright hated on release. Mainlinefags are merciless.
absolutely nothing
Not as good as the Explorers games which were the peak of the franchise, but it is good.
I want to be Isekai'd like in this game
>tfw you are one of the people who played the WiiWare games before the fan translation, and had to figure out everything yourself
f u c k Monster Houses, they're even more cancer in this game.
I spent 8 hours one night trying to get the roms and get them running on the wii, and then quickly gave up because i didn't feel like drawing each symbol out in google translate to maybe know what was going on
Alright fellas, it's time to finally play the 3D games, starting from Gates to Infinity.
What am i in for?
for your sanity, use a text speed hack
GET THE INSTANT TEXT PATCH FOR GATES
holy shit get the instant text patch.
Gates felt kinda rushed, but the story is ok, Super has much more content, but it felt more generic.
Gaslighting, child slavery, torture... And that's just the first episode.
