Are we Witnessing the Iron Claw era of Sony?

Abusing their position on the market to demand stuff from devs that will only benefit Sony themselves.

And, if we are, How long till it blows up like it did for Nintendo in the 90s??

good, fuck publishers
if they won't give us trials willingly then it's a good thing that sony forces them to

You know those demos are behind PS 18$/ Months subscription, right?

The only people afraid of releasing a demo of a game are the people who know that people who play the demo will realize the game is shit and not buy it.

Sony is fucked

What are publishers going to do? Not publish their games? Fuck em

On 360, MS mandated demos of XBLA games for a while and gamers loved it. Of course publishers hated it because it exposed their shitty games.

$18 that most PS5 owners are already paying, yeah

No, nobody is paying that right now.

A) Sony has games beyond Spiderman and Last Of Us

B) What position? Nintendo has hand-held/kids, Xbox has Gamepass and PC and steam.

>I'm paying for it so it's free
This is your brain on snoy

Sony think their throne is locked in. Which is a strange conclusion to reach but normalfags might just be THAT retarded.

Fuck sony for locking demos behind a paid subscriptions. Hope it blows up in their face

>Oh no, people can play two hours of our game to see if it's shit or not

Good, first thing that Sony has done in a while that's actually #fortheplayers

Wait , Xbox doesn’t do this anymore? I dodged some huge turds like Two Worlds thanks to demos. But I also bought stuff I wouldn’t otherwise have played also.

You mean demos?
Or is it something else like released the full game but you can only play an hour or teo.

>Nintendo Cover Japan
>Microoft and PC the rest of the world.
… yes.

What are publishers/devs gonna do, not release their new games on PlayStation?

It’s just like YouTube taking away the dislikes, Sony is doing this because they know big companies won’t do shit.

like?? talladega nights

Nah, hasn't been mandated in a while, primarily due to major publishers outright threatening to skip them over because of it.
Those mandated demos were also not locked behind gold.

If a service you're already paying for offers an extra feature for no additional cost, it's free. It's a free value add.

>its just demos
>ignore the fact that they are forcing publishers to do it and then locking them behind a pay wall, making them not demos but time trials on a subscription

Imagine thinking you're going to lose money because someone actually played the first hour of your game before buying
Or am I missing a piece of the story here? Sounds like devs and publishers are just afraid people will not buy because they tried it, which says a lot about the faith they place in their quality control.

Oh no, what will the publishers do if people are allowed to try their garbage before purchasing? Create good games people want to buy?
No, you just get to have the demo for longer if you are subscribed, but also unsubscribed people get to play them

The higher tiers that we are talking about do not exist now. What we have now is PS+, which is going to be the lowest tier, and is unchanged.

There are 3 million current ps now subscribers for which this is a "free" value. For the other 45 million ps plus subscribers this is a paid feature. To any new subscriber, its a paid feature. Stop being a scumbag.

That's kinda fucked up, I'd get if it was universal thing for everybody but they're doing it so people are forced into buying their shitty service to test a game.
What the fuck.

Remember when gameplay demos were a regular thing? This twitter faggot clearly don't.

The problem is the demos are going to be locked behind a paywall, so Sony mandating this is basically an obvious attempt at forcing devs and publishers to support Sonys shitty subscription service and do it FOR FREE.

>t. Poorfags

They are not, people get the demo even without subscription.
Its just extended to 6 hours instead of 2 when you're subscribed
Stop lying allready

…yes

>No, you just get to have the demo for longer if you are subscribed, but also unsubscribed people get to play them
Read the article again. There is no claim that they will be available for all.

Probably not that many people on here that were around for playstation sampler discs

How well did this work out last time?

I will consider the higher tiers when Sony introduces PS3 emulation. I am not paying for (((streaming))).

>What are publishers/devs gonna do, not release their new games on PlayStation?
Yes? Unlike youtube, sony actually has competition.

>PS5 owners
>implying the people who have bought up PS5s are playing games on them
Total of one game confirmed to break 1M copies sold in 18 total months on the market.

Gameplay demos were never mandatory

Ah yes a demo disc that was either freely given out at a store or attached to a gaming magazine. The gaming magazine one is somewhat comparable.

Thanks to Steam they are now, every purchase is functionally a 2 hour demo.

And devs weren't forced to do it, either.

It's only for PS+ Premium members dumbass, you have to be subscribed to get these trials. Stop being a shill.

To be fair, a two hour demo will hardly be indicative of how the game is, since you're pretty much at the tutorial stage and don't have all the game mechanics unlocked.

>Its just extended to 6 hours instead of 2 when you're subscribed
Where are you pulling a 6 hour number out of? Your ass?
>publishers willingly giving sony 6 hour demos of any game over 34$ FOR FREE
Come on user, that would cause playstation third party support to dry up faster then your hookup after she sees your dick.

put that goalpost down, retard.

mandatory demos are a good thing, but not when they are locked behind a paid subscription that only Sony benefits from.

Is this going to be like that one developer who kept complaining that refunds on steam fucked over his game because you could beat it in 2 hours? Maybe they should make better games.

every game should have a demo
fuck nigger devs who dont release demos
at least on steam you can refund any game with less than 2 hours game time, giving you a demo for any game

What's the problem? It's actually less work than a demo because you don't have to clip a specific part of your game or make a new one. It's just a time gate. It doesn't impact developers at all only the slimy publishers

The hell are you against this for?

I'm more worried about Sony locking their classic playstation games behind a sub.
The entire service will be fucking worthless if one can't buy the games and own them.

Remeber when you had to pay Nintendo to get the demo? On no, right, cause you didnt have to pay for a subscription to get the demo, you fucking faggot

Yes, but you dont have to pay Steam 18$ A Month for “Steam Premium” to get that perk

we don't know but its most likely just a timer by default with the option to make a custom demo if they want to and the timer solution would require zero work on the dev side.

You don't though. You only get more time

If you refund too many times, you don't get to do it anymore.

Make your base game $34.99 but it's only half of the intended content and then accompany it with day one DLC that contains the other half. Checkmate.

Read the article, nigger

yea but you do have to request the refund and keep track of your 2 hours or risk getting rejected. Good that its free but this sounds better.

>timed game trials
sounds good but I don't think they should be timed just make a normal demo even if its like 10-15 minutes long or one to two levels.

Nobody is arguing that mandated demos are bad. Here are the actual arguments of why its bad to sum it up for you:
>demos behind a paywall are not demos, but paid time trials
>publishers will not be happy to subsidize psplus premium by providing somy with free content for it, reducing publisher support
>the competition(steam and microsoft) have refund policies in place allowing users to do no questions asked refunds if they have less then 2 hours gametime/14 days since purchase making 2 hour demos unnecessary
>the only one to actually benefit from this is sony
Now that you have joined the conversation, what are your thoughts?

>making shit up
