I honestly don't know why they made this game, I was watching the multiplayer beta yesterday and I literally could not tell the difference.

The idea of an FPS with "tanks" still baffles me. FPSs have always been about movement and/or tactics and/or aim allowing you to outplay your targets. Who wants to play a version of that but with "nuh-uh-uh, I'm behind my boyfriend's everything-proof shield!"

Throw in years of obligatory powercreep new characters and rebalancing in an incessant urge to break whatever meta has established itself (because every team is supposed to play the same way because if you try something different you're toxic and trolling but when that said way beats every other tactic/composition that's suddenly a bad thing I guess). You get this absolutely arcane RPS of characters being able to nullify a set number of other characters, whilst being nullified by a few themselves, where every individual dual that pops up during the course of the match (inherent to the genre despite OWs best attempts) in most FPSes is determined by who is better by the game, here it's determined largely by matchup. Then you end up with the fighting game tierlist problem where a good kit that doesn't have a lot of weaknesses begets having even fewer weaknesses as that character becomes top tier by virtue of having few bad matchups, and here you can throw on an extra teammate or two dedicated to specifically nullifying that counter and the whole team moves as a homogenised blob under someone gets a pick and then everyone dies. It's just so stale.

Imagine making a game where you have to goad your players into doing things they don't enjoy just so your gameplay design can function.

No, pay to not wait has been a thing in plenty of games.

Some games will have to incorporate an element of waiting into their design, whether you're straight up waiting for a timer to run down or you have to grind gameplay. "Pay to not wait" then emerges as a natural monetisation model with various levels of jewishness. Games built entirely around waiting for items and buildings to finish being created that you can pay to speed up are mobage shit. On the other hand, a live-service game built around grinding some PvE mode for upgrades and unlocks might have a de-facto free to play mode where it just takes far longer to unlock new weapons and characters than if you pay for some reasonably priced subscription. It all depends on a lot of factors as to whether or not something is a complete fucking scam such as pricing, rewards, gameplay, etc.

Paying/doing chores to get into the matches to actually play the game faster, in a full price multiplayer game, but only for a select number of classes that the devs obviously realise are the only ones people want to play, is a new low even for blizzard.

It's not too bad when 'tank' is more like a battletank rather than the MMO style damage sink. Trading off speed, stealth and/or range for firepower and durability can be pretty fun.

yeah well that's not how the tanks in OW work lol. TF2's heavy, who you're describing, would be a DPS in this game and is most akin to bastion (one of if not the highest DPS in the game, extra durability, and self healing meaning that if you're caught by surprise by him there's no way you'll live, but only a braindead zombie could actually be caught by surprise). The only difference is that at least TF2 is brave enough to allow their version to literally move at all.

The passes aren't something you can buy.

Not really cause it isn't one, in regular OW you have those for the attack que, you get them by playing other roles and the game wont let you use them unless the waiting time is higher than the other roles.

They need to just drop the mmo trinity nonsense and start with the assumption that everyone is meant to do damage first above all else, then re-balance from there.
