Why did it flop?

Sold less than a literal who IP like Triangle Strategy while carrying a name like Final Fantasy in the title. What went so so wrong?

Nothing. It's loved by all who play it and it'll be a grower not a shower.

Level design really sucked ass. Plus there wasn't the overworld you'd expect off a JRPG.

To elaborate, level design in SOP works like this: you run forward until you hit a wall. This wall can be opened either by punching it in the face or by taking a branch that leads you to a stage-specific switch that opens the wall. There is very little evolution on the mechanics of this switch. Whether it's turning off the rain, destroying a magma-spewing statue or firing a laser, it's all the same for the most part. Take the branch, find the switch and activate it, then proceed forth. It's a straight line that occasionally loops upon itself in the most localized and tangential ways.

I'm kinda drunk and angry but lo, my interpretation of SOP level design. Fight me.

It's just another nomura garbage with nothing special about it.

Generic soulsborne wannabe with a cool premise but shitty execution.

Epic games kikery and square fucked up the performance because they don't know how to pre-compile shaders.

not enough "hey cubes!"

highly doubt it sold less than triangle strategy

the level design is simple to make it feel like a nes game you retarded niggers

Played the demo, shit was boring.

Triangle Strategy sold 800k in 2 weeks btw
SoP didn't do well enough to even warrant any kind of milestone post lmao

NES games had fucking labyrinths for dungeons, the fuck you talking about nigger. Modern games dont have that because instead of designing dungeons they're designing how a fedora can fit with giant pauldrons on all 5 character models.

NES games were fucking labyrinthine compared to S(L)oP.

play the first final fantasy

Final fantasy is a boomer IP. Zoomers don't care.

It's gonna be a cult classic

you metric is literally fucking famitsu? you're a fucking moron. it had incentives for buying digitally(early access and exclusive items) and we saw the fucking sony blog where it placed #3 on digital sales in japan and #7 in the west.
blog.ja.playstation.com/2022/04/08/20220408-downloadranking/

they're even shoving jack in their stupid mobile game.
mobile.twitter.com/DFF_OperaOmnia/status/1518771846308499457

True lmao

FFniggers don't play real games with real gameplay, only shitty weeb visual novels

>S(L)oP
You didn't need to add to it when "sop" as a word was just as fitting.

Westenized RPG. Also frank sinatra is shit.

>play exactly one NES game
No thanks. And since I know what you're getting at, I prioritize good level design over making it "story accurate."

It's because on PS4 it's like 540p 20fps or some shit with ps1 textures and most people are too poor to be on PS5

It was a literal who IP. Final fantasy Explorers was also a literal who IP carrying the FF name.

SQUARE ENIX

STOP MAKING ACTION RPGS

YOU SUCK AT IT

THEY'RE ALL AWFUL

ESPECIALLY KINGDOM HEARTS

FUCK YOU, MAKE GOOD GAMES AGAIN

Most Sony releases this year are for PS4

>spend 20 years shitting out "FF" games
>shocked most recent shit is shit

It's the opposite though right? In 20 years all we've gotten is FF12-15. before that we were getting a new FF every year

Because final fantasy is a dogshit franchise. There has never been a single good FF game, seriously. Square Enix is a joke

The side games count too, dumbass. That's like saying there's technically only 3 KH games.

How many KH games are there? They just announced 4

12-15 are not the opposite of shit, they've been shit since (and including) 10.
They've also been pimping out the IP to whatever 3rd party leaves the cash on the dresser, watering down the brand. The gachashits alone... oof.
FF hasn't been a trusted name by anyone with any sense since before most people ITT were born.

Final Fantasy's biggest problem right now is that fans expect "aggressive innovation" and "drastically different settings" from them thanks to FFs VII-X. The biggest Final Fantasies all had different battle systems and settings, which was great in the hands of a team that could deliver, but they're running on fumes and now inventing both a new battle system AND a new setting every time is exhausting to them and us. You see them trying to skirt it too. Look how they try and turn FFXIII into a franchise by hook or by crook. Fabula Nova Crystallis failed so they forced FFXIII-2 and 3. At this point I'm sure they're more interesting in expanding FFVII EU than making FFXVI. Even the game we're discussing is a prequel to FFI.

They're not the behemoths they used to be, yet the expectation to invent new things with every iteration is still there which is why every new numbered FF feels schizophrenic and every FF spinoff feels lazy. They've dug themselves into a hole.

In the past year (estimate)
>Strangers of Paradise Final Fantasy Origins
>Final Fantasy XIV PS5 + Endwalker expansion
>Final Fantasy The First Soldier
>Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster series
>War of the Visions Final Fantasy Brave Exvius
>Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered

All mediocre releases

No, the problem is final fantasy is a jrpg franchise and jrpgs are inherently bad. RPGs are by their nature, story driven and Japanese people can't write to save their lives because they're bug people.
So you have a franchise that is essentially an amalgam of things taken from western RPGs, bastardized, made worse and then slapdashed together with some retarded plot that only a genuine retard would enjoy.
Japs just can't into rpgs they should stick to action games

I haven't beaten it yet purely because the performance pisses me off. What's on screen doesn't justify the single-digit slowdowns.

Stop being poor?

>fans expect "aggressive innovation" and "drastically different settings" from them
Since when? Fans want the same thing over and over.

Get a load of this retard that didn't know what he was buying

>what he was buying
A bad game that rightfully flopped?

3 E's
>Elden Ring
>Epic Games Store
>E...extremely poor optimization.

>Everyone tired of Square's shits

>PC
Epic store
>PS5
Western niggers console

The trailers were the only good part, just like those chink mobile games.

Nothing I just pirated the shit out of it. It was fun

Just like Yea Forums likes saying Horizon got mogged by Elden Ring, at least that launched before ER. This souls-like game launched afterwards. It was never going to be a big seller anyways though. It looks like a budget game.

Nioh has great level designs, so that's disappointing.

They didn't make it. Team Ninja did. And Team Ninja already made 2 Nioh games, which are masterpieces. This looks like it uses the exact same combat system as those.

Budget game that shows team ninja gameplay cant carry a game if it doesnt have a weeb geralt or a ninja

You can’t say it sold less than triangle strategy until it reaches the same point in it’s lifetime and we see the sales dumbo, learn about fallacies

Dude nioh has the same level design , but feudal japan aesthetic makes it forgivable by weebs literally you fight in the same bridge in secondaries and some field that doesnt look like crap like final chaos memes

Turned out that le epic reddit chaos meme and wholesome "cringekino" is not enough for a good game
Everything pointed at this being a cheap trash so Yea Forums decided to be hyped about it out of being contrarian as always

>Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster series
>Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered
>Final Fantasy XIV PS5 + Endwalker expansion
Not new games.
>War of the Visions Final Fantasy Brave Exvius
Mobile dogshit. That leaves one which is just a spinoff Nioh reskin.

>Final Fantasy's biggest problem right now is that fans expect "aggressive innovation" and "drastically different settings" from them thanks to FFs VII-X.
That's what the fans expect, not what they want. The constant experimentation and every entry being both wildly different and heavily divorced from the styles and gameplay that made the series popular in the first place has been pushing people away for years. The refusal to just make a good fucking game that's not hampered by scale creep, bloated budgets, and executive meddling has done serious damage to the brand and resulted in shit like XV massively underperforming. Pretty much every other JRPG franchise has managed to swoop in and make a dent in the market now because, outside XIV, Final Fantasy is failing so utterly to just give people what they want.

Okay so everything you said about SOP is bullshit. Gotcha.

It's so fucking weird that you talk to NPCs in town from a menu instead of actually going through a hub world.
It's like they had to cut the town itself, but didn't want to cut the dialogue.
There was also that glorified mobile game, Chocobo GP.

If you want traditional FF, there's a spin off for that. It's called Bravely Default.

Which just solidifies that fans have even less reason to give a shit about the Final Fantasy brand these days, yes.

Suck the inside of my dirty cock fagboi, KH is amazing.
