Blade gacha oddly enhances the replay value. The blades you get on default and side quests easily deal with the field skills, especially Wulfric. What's actually annoying to grind for are actually find great common blade mods, some low pull rates, fucking Kosmos, and how most of the rare blades are surprisingly pretty meh for the most part.

1 tried and failed at doing this. 2 made relationships matter in the core of humanity and the world itself. The broken bond between driver and blade resulted into horrific events. God also has his presence in 2 and punished immortal chasers with undying savagery.

Literally everything about Amalthus, Klaus, and Malos in 2. 1 tries to pay off into this stuff, but ends up destroying its strong build up from stupid waifu shit. Ironically enough. Don't get me started on the goofy ass Zanza and the asspull power ups and power recoveries.
