The only time I ever hear about the franchise being popular in Japan is when dumbasses on Yea Forums tell me that it's everywhere. Whenever I go Akihabara or any tourist trap part of Japan that's filled with pop culture merchandising, I almost never witness anything related to the Touhou. It's a small independent shovelware franchise of games that don't sell. It's mildly popular at best for what it is. It has doujins that are bigger than the actual games if anything. I'm so sick of Westerners with their revisionist perception towards this franchise and pretending like it's some juggernaut franchise when it doesn't have a single game that has ever sold a million copies. These stupid fucking foreigners are so confident to tell you something as if there's any truth attached to it when they themselves are not even surrounded by the people they're speaking for.
