Not watching that video, but if he says the PS2 era was the golden age he's absolutely correct unless you're some kind of 2D purist. That era had 3D gaming finally coming out of its experimental phase, but it was just before the hyper commercialization of gaming and the introduction of scummy practices like DLC and MTX. The costs hadn't skyrocketed yet, so you had hundreds of smaller AA studios putting out dozens of great games every damn month for years. You didn't have every single big release following the cookie cutter open world/linear setpiece cinematic game templates either. It was absolutely the golden age.

The SNES was retro while the Gamecube was current. Unless you're going to try and count the Virtual Boy or N64DD as a full console generation, that's only a two generation gap.

Even if that was the case back then the generational leap from SNES to Gamecube/PS2 was enormous compared to PS3 to PS5. It would make sense to consider 2D retro in the age of (relatively) good looking 3D.
