how does anybody interpret it as the middle? You see it rise from the ocean like a star destroyer and there are multiple cutscenes that show the surface. You even fight Queen Zeal on the bridge.

The 2nd level of contra 3 I always thought they were laying on their sides like shrimps and wiggling around to move. It's just top down view though.

I never apply a 1:1 correlation to overworld sprites and their actual physical location. As far as I knew, I was somewhere on an enormous tower, not a "bridge", especially considering you have a view of the curvature of the fucking earth

Again, the problem is perspective. Look at the Black Omen vs the mountain behind it. Once you know what it is, it's obvious, but this looks like a mountain sized monolith if you have no context, plus its body hides how long the shadow is which is the only thing that would give it away. Again, they should have made the ship face west or east or hell even south would have been better.

That perspective implies a ship retard.

Shadow is even less obvious in other time periods. It could just as easily have been a tower because you can't see the important part of the shadow.

It really doesn't. You can only see the face of most presenting vertical structures in the world, so by the same logic, you should only see the ass end of the starship and barely over the top of it
It's a clash of perspectives, unless it's a tower.
