I pirated it because fuck paying for a half finished game and so far it's pretty ok, nothing too amazing. I've yet to engage in battle so there might be a surprise there.
There's some things that bug me a bit like when you send a harvester to a spot with spice and you are warned that they attract worms but then the spice gets transferred to your stocks automatically. It would've be more accurate to actually having to check if your harvester is not eaten by a worm or attacked by an enemy and you can only claim that spice once it has securely returned to the refinery. It would be more faithful, plus, it would add some sort of push your luck mechanic since you could only refine how much spice you got in the harvester.

also other factions could attack a harvester or that would be too bullshit?

At least I'm not the only one who noticed. The art/presentation style and UI + coloration is one of the most blatant ripoffs of Endless Legend (+ Endless Space to degrees) that I've ever seen. Even looks like the same font. Had to double-take when it wasn't the same studio. Only difference seems to be more rounded edges, and slightly different game-play because real-time. Not that being a ripoff is necessarily a bad thing, those games were pretty fun, and had good art/UI direction.

Arrakis is completely covered by deserts and a few rocks right? Wouldn't it get monotone just zooming around the planet with no change in scenery expect some palace/urban environment. Even playing the RTS games it got repetitive, not much to see on that shit planet.

Yeah, Arrakis is basically a barren wasteland, outside of one large-ish city and a bunch of nomad enclaves buried in caves. It's also incredibly important to the setting because it provides most (maybe all, I forget) of the Spice that allows ships to safely travel through space. You could fast forward a few thousand years to when God King Leto transforms it into a paradise, but almost no one read that far into the city.

Yeah, and all the while there are a dozen other planets described, all with unique factions and history.
But no, let's just make Dune II for the nth time because big worm cool.
