No, they were ahead by a set amount. The gap-closing happened when MS had the prescience and resources to put much larger orders for parts in in 2020. So now they're seeing the benefit of that in having tons of stock on shelves such that many people who just want a next-gen system for games like Elden Ring can get one easily

Series X is a great proposition price wise, anecdotally a lot of my peers went to a Mac + Xbox setup from a PC in the last two years because both just werk and you don't need to sell your kidney to get a decent GPU.
