Multiplayer, singleplayer, console or PC, it was there and it was good. We didn't know what we had until it was gone.

Honestly I see the entire stretch from about 1990 to 2007-ish as one long golden age.
Most good games made today are usually trying to emulate some game from that period rather than innovate.

Much like Shadow of the Colossus, it's biggest fans have only ever watched streamers play it on their behalf. Actually playing Team Ico games is something else entirely and it takes some next level mental gymnastic skills to convince yourself they're actually good video games. It's a bit like reading The Trial by Franz Kafka compared to just glossing over the wikipedia page and using the word "kafkaesque" at every available opportunity. It's a lot more enjoyable in theory than it is in reality and the only reason you're doing it is to make yourself look cultured.

I love emulation but PS2 has just been incredibly spotty in my experience. Yakuza for example just never looked right. I've had more luck with Switch emu and even Xenia was better for me (only wanted to play shmups)

I never understood the battle autism between emulation and physical. Let people play with whichever they want. If people like buying trash on eBay or bloating their computer with jank files from shitty compiled emulators, let them satisfy their autism disorders the way they want.

The autists who spend $400 on upscalers like RetroTink or whatever butthurt people can get the same results or better for free. By today's standards most of those games are pretty shit and that is fact. You're just blinded by nostalgia. GT7 for example is way better than GT3, DMC5' s way better than 1 too. MGS2 isn't even good with that claustrophobic level design and nonsensical story telling.

No one is driving up the price, kiddo. That's supply and demand at work. If there's less working consoles out there compared to a decade ago, the rarity increases and it shall reflect the pricing. And if people are willing to pay $200 for a PS2 today, then it shall be established as such. There's also sentiments such as nostalgia at play which can be exploited for profits.

If people want to waste their money on junk, let them be. And if supply shrinking resulting in driving prices up pisses you off so much, go and cry a river to Sony so they manufacture more consoles. Why do you care about it, anyway? You're playing the game you like in 4K already. Why go to such lengths to enjoy that shit at such resolution? No idea.
