We're too far removed from the movies that inspired Duke Nukem in the first place. It makes sense for a low budget indie game, but not something that's supposed to be a AAA game that most AAA players won't even understand.

Social justice hit video games pretty much right when DNF came out. I remember being confused people were getting so upset by "capture the babe" and the whole twins getting knocked up with aliens thing at the time. I was like it's Duke, what do these people expect? Good taste and strong female role models? This is the way it's supposed to be, that's the whole premise. Boy did I have a lot to learn.

To be fair, the first half of DNF was spent trying to rescue the twins and having Duke joke about the whole thing when they get exploded by the birthing aliens was in poor taste and really out of character for Duke.

Duke Nukem the character predates Doomguy by two years.
Duke has also had only a few FPS game. Most of his games have been third person and side scrollers.

Borderlands 1 was OK, Randy had historically worked on DN3D (most notably the atomic edition episode "The Birth"), and the future looked bright for Gearbox during this period

it's only after that we realized how much of a mistake it was, with Randy being a fucking scumbag behind the scene (this was the period where he stole Sega's Aliens Colonial Marines funding and embezzled it into Borderlands 2) and then turning into a huge SJW to virtue signal after he got caught with "barely legal" porn

also I will keep saying this forever: Gearbox DID NOT FINISH DNF, all they did was cut out everything that wasn't 90% finished by 3DR, replace Bombshell with a terribly unfunny Gear of War parody character, and cut the game in half to vaguely repurpose the latter half of the game as paid DLC later

Dusk isn't brown, it's also miles above Warlock, which is just room after room of monsters, not even good arenas like in DE, just rooms.

It's only been eleven years since the last release my man, that means it's another two before one comes out.
It'll probably be very similar to Doom 2016 or Shadow Warrior 3 hopefully if it ever comes oout

All the rerecorded lines sound horrible compared to the original when it comes to delivery. basically 3D Realms directed every voice session and had Jon St. John grind his teeth while Gearbox let him loose in the voice booth because "he knows Duke".
