Odyssey made the planets look uglier, it was/is buggy as fuck, the ground combat is mid at best, the equipment situation on ground boils down to "Buy this high tier shit, and then don't even bother doing all the extra footwork to get the top tier shit because it's such a massive pain in the ass to acquire/engineer", and the most egregious shit - they pulled a Blizzard-tier "You think you want it" move and said ship interiors weren't "a priority", even though that's 50% of what people wanted space legs for. They also made it sound like there were "TOO MANY SHIPS" to manage, when Elite has like... 20-30 at most..

Basically, Odyssey was half-baked and needed another year or two in the kitchen. Somehow it still ended up better than where SC is right now though, so that's something.

I just keep thinking about how EVE had the right idea with Dust 514 - a separate game with ground/air combat that tied into EVE's universe/economy with a persistent server, and how if done nowadays would probably fucking slay most other games on the market.

Shit like being able to have a buddy orbitally bombard a planet mid match was so fucking neat.

Difference is, Horizon got better/good after a year. Odyssey's a year in and has shown no signs of improving. If anything, it's already aging poorly and is actively driving players away due to it's eventual bleed over.

Look, I like Star Citizen. I really do.
Sometimes I like to hop in my jpeg and cruise around Chris Roberts' very expensive diorama.
Something praisers never mention (or make a brief quip to reduce it) that server meshing and the next star system were promised nearly a decade ago. And even when they finish the next star system, they aren't adding it until after server meshing is adapted to.

I get that you're in 2k deep. Don't feel bad about making such horrible financial decisions in your life because we've all been there, just don't defend it for fuck sake.

Mediocre devs and investors want it to fail because it's a turbulent business model. Yes star citizen is advanced, and if it releases it will make bigger name studios look bad. (Macro games: CDPR failed, Ubisoft failed, Activision failed, microsoft has failed and will again). So if it is possible to make a game as ambitious as SC is via crowdfunding, and that becomes the norm, investors will be too hesitant to invest in projects like SC because of it's slow development and Devs would have to work on games for 10-15 years. That's half of someone's entire career for one game.

I wish this game played like a video game and not some sort of gambling/ pyramid scheme.

I crewed on someone's Hammerhead during the Xeno Threat event and made 4.3 million credits. It's pretty easy from there. Also I had already bought a ship just by doing bounty hunting missions, but it wasn't much better than what I had.
