DD came out in May 2012, Made in Abyss started in October 2012.
Itsuno had the rough idea for Dragon's Dogma since the 80s though, which is just unabashedly his Dungeons and Dragons dream game.

Well that much is obvious but the game shouldn’t be missing a feature like that just because you’re a fucking loser.

Don't worry about the level cap, once you get to post game and BBI there's easy and repeatable bosses that'll give you like 30 levels every time you kill them.
