How good is it?

great aoe
great reach
great damage
stagger
blood loss
good weapon ash

Complete casual here and new to Fromsoft. I used this for 90%+ of the game only way I got through. Was surprised to see on the weapon ranker lists it’s like a D. Makes no sense.

>Mediocre weapon art you can't swap
>Okay-ish AR if you're pure DEX
>Outright bad bleed buildup
Why would this be anything but kind of okay?

Beat my entire first play through with it, Melenia and all.

The skill is good, stagger is alright, speed is solid and it procs bleed occasionally. It was a solid weapon all around.

Because every zoomer and casual is using it cause their favorite youtuber they pay to watch like simps is using it. So 90% of hosts in the Manor are running it with 2 summons all with end game gear. It's ridiculous

It's a D tier weapon that seems really great if it's all you've ever used.

Because RoB and Moonveil exist.

any other comfy curved greatswords to combine with this one?

Do not listen to the bullshit ranking tiers, they are all so, so wrong. Bloodhound is considered a low tier weapon because it does marginally worse damage than other greatswords of it's class, does not have an 'S' for it's scaling, and doesn't trigger bleedout every .5 seconds. If you aren't stabbing yourself in the dick every time you don't deal the maximum possible damage per swing in combat, these factors are fucking retarded.

What should seperate weapons is a balance between raw damage and their movesets, of which the bloodhound fang is phenominal, allowing you to hit and stagger multiple people at once if you know what you are doing.

Bad bleed buildup? What?

It has the best bleed buildup considering it's other stats. Sure you can find 2-3 curved swords with better buildup but the rest of the stats are lower compared to Bloodhound Fang

Also, what's up with FROM giving us the best weapon in the game quite early. Demons Souls had that sword of a guy in cathredal, that i can't remember the name (a black red eye knight was protecting him) and in Dark Souls you could hit the dragon's tail with arrows to get an amazing sword out of him that the 95% of the players beat the game with that weapon.

It's supposed to be a reward for exploration and doing seemingly inane things. There is no way in hell you would have discovered the drake sword on your own except through reading guides or word of mouth. But somewhere out there, some crazed idiot tried chopping the tails off of every dragon in the game and figured it out.

Needs more jpeg

True but in Demons Souls and Elden Ring it's quite easy and straightforward to find these weapons.

>It has the best bleed buildup considering it's other stats
>Fixed 55 buildup
>best anything
Literally any common GCS with bleed infusion has near triple the buildup with much better weapon arts, the only thing that doesn't make the Bloodhound's Fang a joke is that since it's a DEX weapon it can be buffed with spells so it's not unsalvageable.
The moment a DLC adds a common CGS with natural bleed the only thing that will make the Bloodhound's Fang relevant will be the fact that's it's really easy to get, it's one of the worst unique weapons in the game

Because these exist

Someone may have just datamined all the weapons in the game. The item description of it reads
"This sword, one of the rare dragon weapons, is formed by a drake's tail. Drakes are seen as undeveloped imitators of the dragons, but they are likely their distant kin."

Or maybe people were hitting it's tail because it was the most easy part to hit.

I'm glad I beat the game with the worst weapon of them all.

He used a weapon. Sorry sweaty, you did NOT beat the game smdh

>quality
Meh.

You can beat the game with any weapon, it's not a hard a game, and honestly it's not like things change much between what's considered top tier and low tier, your routines are gonna be the same regardless of what you're using, outside of some weapons that are exceedingly powerful in certain scenarios.
The thing is it's still a low tier weapon, for good reasons too since it's so readily available and you can even ask Blaidd to get it for you, it would be pretty embarassing for it to be as strong as some people think it is.

Putting this aside for a second, most people still don't have any idea of which weapons are actually more powerful than others and why, the game is massive, with lots of possible choices and for the first time we're truly seeing some faint diversity in terms of tools and player kits, most people stick to what other parrots and never actually bother experimenting with things, and since we still have two DLCs ahead of us, if not three given how successful the game is, the actual meta won't be figured out anytime soon.
tl:dr; just don't worry about what people tell you and use what's fun to you, you can make everything work down to Varre's bouquet.

Quality weapons just tend to suck ass

Rivers of blood exists, and makes people seethe so hard they think bleed as a whole is broken and not just the weapon itself.

I played blind and spent like an hour killing that FUCKING dragon and I was so pissed when there was no reward. Then I looked it up and found out you have to cut the tail off, 10/10

the fact that they didn't patch it shows that they 100% support shitter cheese now

This. Bleed is actually fairly balanced. It's just that the existence of Rivers of Blood and Seppuku make it seem completely broken.

...and lord of blood's exultation, and white mask, and fast-hitting curved swords

...powerstanced naginatas, fly spam...

has 15% more jump attack damage and can easily reach over 900 ar

This, especially with the upgrade system in DaS3/ER where any normal weapon can be infused heavy or keen. Yeah, theoretically quality infusions win out if you have TWO attack stats at their softcaps, which just isn't realistic unless you're doing some ultra high level meme build. Otherwise it makes way more sense to just take any weapon and infuse it heavy or keen and then only needing to pump either STR or DEX, not both.

Quality made sense in DaS1 and 2 because there were no physical infusions. If you wanted to get the most out of a C/C weapon like a claymore, you were going to have to go quality. There's no point anymore.

Its a bleed weapon with bad bleed build up (55) that DOESN'T increase when you upgrade it.
The weapon art is cool and gives exceptional mobility for a greatsword, but the gimped bleed really hinders it.

it's a bit slow

It's not overwhelmingly retarded on things that can bleed like rivers is. It was pretty much easy mode regardless though on my DEX character. I never even buffed it so I didn't even get nearly as much bleed as I could've

its capped at 55. my +25 dismounter the first curved greatsword you probably get in the game was doing 101 with a blood ash on it
you trigger bleed every 2-3 hits instead of 4-5

What tier list are you guys referring to? Wouldn't put too much stock in it but I'm curious to see anyway.

Because the ash of war is pure trash

I like Morgotts sword, straight up one shots players lol

I hate somber weapons. No changing the ash of war, no infusions, and they tend to have dogshit scaling. There are exceptions of course but I'm speaking generally about how subpar and inflexible they tend to be.

Its a pvp tier list. No point in making a pve tier list. In pvp this weapon is complete trash

zero stagger
stubby range
long windups
cumbersome delay and hitbox on weapon art

Still curious, got a link?

Didn't realize tierfags thought bloodhound blade was bad that means I beat the game

All of those are just strong tools, none of them basically give you free bleed like rivers of blood and seppuku do.

It's considered the best weapon in early game.

the point is the insane synergy built around bleeding things
the equivalent talisman and helmet for poison is disgustingly bad because poison can't be re-applied quickly like bleed can

>Bleed
I sleep
>Frost
real shit

user you can beat the PvE minigame with anything. The tier list is for the mode where weapons and skills and stats actually matter, PVP.

Monk's Flameblade, just get two of these and ditch the Bloodhound's Fang.

>Demons Souls had that sword of a guy in cathredal, that i can't remember the name (a black red eye knight was protecting him)
Getting that weapon early would force you to kill Ostrava in world 1 or the Nexus and get Old King Doran down to 75% HP. And you wouldn't really get good bonus damage until you get White character tendency, which isn't easy to do (unless you're playing online and you kill invaders).

I'd argue that Crescent Falchion is a better example for DeS. Also DaS1 has Zweihander, Gravelord GS, and Black Knight weapons which are overall much better than the Drake sword.

Don't remember, I think I saw it at /dsg/. Won't put too much stock in it, game still getting patched. Curved greatswords suck in general, too slow

Shit scaling, shit bleed, shit damage.
What exactly is good about it?

This. A lot of people who say something is overpowered seem to do so only because they've only ever tried a limited selection of weapons and builds. It is very easy to become very powerful in this game without having to use bleedshit. Even funnier is when people say something non-bleed is overpowered when you use it along with a spirit ash to take aggro away from you. Like dude of fucking course you're going to feel like you're steamrolling the boss if a spirit ash is taking all its attention.

Who cares what's good in pve just use what's fun.
For me it's the claymore

What do we think of it?

>using a weapon
You didn't beat it.

I didn’t read any of that cope

You can still buff it with Bloodflame so that it doesn't suck too much.
Now that the WA doesn't suck so much it's not that bad, but still nothing special.

dat ass

People just can't seem to wrap their heads around the fact that you're no longer expected to just choose a single weapon and stick with it from start to finish. You can do that for sure but the devs also gave you tons of shit to allow you to experiment not to mention being able to just play offline and restore your backup saves in case you don't like the results of a respec/weapon upgrading project. Or if you're like me just use alts. Regarding Bloodhound Fang, any weapon you can infuse with Bloodhound's Step is already objectively better than it, especially if it also has innate bleed.

Good but the stat requirements are frustrating

>unless you're doing some ultra high level meme build
All levels have a cap, no reason to not reach it. Quality is weaker at lower levels, but it's the best setup for any standard weapon
past 60/60 STR/DEX

I just can't for the life of me make a STR/FTH build work, I always get the itch to go back to my DEX/INT build because it just works so much better

are you using faith buffs with a str weapon?

Sure would be nice if it was obtainable before the fucking mountaintops

kinda meh

Using a STR weapon with a FTH ash, I haven't tried out any of the FTH buffs yet because I'm working on getting ahold of the Godslayer Seal before I start upgrading

who is the fugitive

Shit but looks cool. Sadly that's most ER weapons.

Vyke I'm assuming

hmm ok. I think standard infusion lets the faith buff from the ash add extra damage than faith or flame art

Adahn, the fatass in the evergaol in Liurnia

>Drake sword

my playthrough i only used this weapon, no buff items or spells and it felt very strong
had 40/40 build

Golden Vow, Flame Grant Me Strength, and Flame Art infusions are your friend. For Volcano Manor just use lightning. Slot in Bestial Vitality, Bestial Sling, Lightning Spear and Frenzied Burst. STR/FTH builds are very strong for pve but using it for pvp is very similar to regular STR builds as in you have to actually git gud.
