There's nothing stopping any f2p from exploring the overworld and doing the story shit, gacha is only relevant if you want to perfect clear the tryhard endgame dungeon for like 7.5 rolls a month

I mean it's free, so if you're interested there's no harm in trying it (assuming you don't have a gambling addiction and/or aren't susceptible to FOMO).
Obviously not him, but the EDF games are a good combination of mindless fun and grind. 5 is the latest mainline game, but if you're new to the series then you can't go wrong with any of the older ones that aren't Iron Rain or Insect Armageddon.

you are limited to traveler, amber, kayeah, lisa, barbra, and xiaoling if you dont roll the gacha. If you roll the free newbie gacha you can pick up noelle + maybe 1 or 2 other random characters. In order to get a 5 star gold character you will either need to drop 100$ or do digital chores for 2+ months on average. The game's gacha is extremely predatory which is why it was able to make so much money.

This isn't one of those 'play for free' games where you can loop hole your way into getting all the stuff you want by just playing a lot. The rate at which you acquire free cashshop currency is carefully gated to keep you chasing your next set of pulls.

Exploration is fun, story is also fun if you like adventure/slice of life anime. I play it since release and take breaks now and then when I feel burned out only logging in for my dailies and events - 20 mins tops, because I'm f2p and I enjoy the game and the gacha aspect.

the story is 6/10 but it's pg13 so you'll always see the good guy win and "knock out" the bad guys. The latest zone (the chasm) is is absolutely incredible though I fucking loved exploring that mine and the main story seems like it's starting to become darker now I'd say play it but don't try to binge it cause if you run out of content it becomes a boring as fuck game

It is though, I got 2 five star characters I wanted without paying a single buck (1st on coinflip pity, 2nd on non coinflip pity ), and did so with about 200 hours over 3 or so months.

I can get all the stuff I want as f2p since they never release anything I actually want. Last time I rolled was Albedo rerun and before that it was Skyward Harp/Lost Prayer banner a year ago.

The only thing you missed was the summer islands, which are rumoured to be coming back anyway. Inazuma, Enkanomiya, the Chasm, and all their story quests are permanenet content

It's fun and has a lot of charm to it. Just take your time, enjoy it and don't become a rabid metafag like you see sperging out in almost every genshin thread. If you find yourself liking enough just get the welkin thing and save gems for a character you really want.

I haven’t rolled for him yet but I do like his overall character now that he been in so many events and I plan to get him.
