I don't know why anyone would want to make a game. So much effort, so little chance of your game actually being any good, so much less chance of success even if your game is good.

Helltaker is way, way too thin on content to justify being a paid title. Making the entire thing free was the correct choice here, it ensured the game spread like fucking wildfire and really put his name on the map instead of just being played by a captive audience of his pre-existing followers. Making a few thousand dollars through sales isn't even remotely as lucrative as the business opportunities he lucked into by having the game go viral, also I'd argue that the artbook sales probably made enough money to make up for that possible lost revenue anyway.

You can choose a female sprite for the mc. Just keep in mind that nearly every character was designed by a bara artist and that every single scene is written as if you chose the male sprites. :)

The thing the normal people don’t understand is making a game isn’t a linear process. There are so many things you need to pay attention to and develop all those elements in a coherent way where they compliment each other for a consistent foundation. Sometimes you need to change all the stuff you made in order to fit them into a recent fundamental design change. It is not easy being a dev that is aiming to make something good. Especially when you are a solo dev.
