I'll be honest, I got Shadowlands, because I really, truly, thought that it could NOT get worse than BFA.

I never imagined in my fucking dreams when every comment section, forum, and form of social media was screaming to not double down on the painfully and utterly obvious Sylvanas redemption arc and the Jailer retardation, I genuinely figured the time they had spent scrambling post BFA was them pulling back and trying to actually fix shit, maybe listen to the community a bit.

But I forgot one thing.

The current people making world of warcraft actually, genuinely, HATE their userbase, they hold anyone who plays the game in complete and utter contempt.

So they doubled down, they fucked around, and found out.

For the last near two decades I had a wow subscription active at least for part of each year, every year.

No more. I got off the hamster wheel and will never go back.

thats true of a lot of franchises now, star wars, star trek, LOTR, list goes on of established franchises where the content/media creators just hate their own fanbase

WoW 2, with most off the fluff removed and focus back on the main stuff.

they just can't do it, World of Warcraft used its insane cultural consciousness to garner hype and its clout as a franchise to hold itself up. It doesn't have that any more, WoW is a relic and Warcraft is so old that everyone's forgotten it.

This shit is beyond nonsense. Yeah people get old, but people also just want a game that makes them feel pissed that they have to go be responsible instead of play. Nothing really has that feeling anymore. There was Elden Ring for me, but that's the first time in a long time I went absolutely ape shit on a game for hundreds of hours. That high is over now and it's back to regular ole shit: Mid to piss poor tier mmo's or not gaming until I feel like playing a FROM game again. There are hardly any good RPGs that come thru anymore. The idea of a game has just transcended into this unrecognizable pile of shit from most creators. Would love to return to WoW, but there's just no reason to play it over any of the other choices you have for MMOs. Unless you realllllly like the destroyed lore or the harder PvE stuff.

MoP is remembered fondly because it had good class design
Everyone who worked on the classes back then got fired and the people doing their job now are clowns that haven't put in a good day's work in their lives. It's fucked

I raided as a warlock in Cata and MoP, the difference was so huge the class design was so good. Xelnath who was the class designer behind the rework did a big blogpost about the process and its really interesting, the fact that they fired him the same year is just fucking ridiclious, I can't imagine any of the modern devs putting in as much time, effort, and talent into their job.

No they said it was the fastest selling pc game or whatever, but what they did was tally up all the preorders and counted them all as sales when the game released so they got some 3m sales in one second

MMOs went from a genre of being amazed at the ability to be able to play with your friends online and meet tons of new people to realizing there was an actual game and having to commit yourself to a second job. It's a shit genre that I wish we could move away from since people constantly pigeon hole themselves into trying to create another "WoW but with 'x' as the difference" and they get away with it anyways since MMO players have legit brain rot. Some please just make a co-op/player server hosted RPG with modding.

MMOs have never been more casual, they used to be second jobs but now everything needs to be able to be cleared in 20 minutes so dad gamers can take care of their kids
