I actually don't think it would be inconceivable that the Stahlhelm would remain mostly unchanged, it was considered a powerful symbol of the german military even during the Führer's time.

The only supposed evidence against them are some pictures of supposed warcrimes, nothing quantified, no historical accounts beyond that.
