can we have a thread to talk about how much shit was cut or changed for the release of dark souls 3? I"ve recently gone down a rabbit hole of sorts of threads and youtube videos talking about this.
it seems like fromsoft even changed the names and locations of the bosses last minute too.
All dark souls games had a trackload of cut content, thank bamco
Leo Brooks
there is a whole cut area called "gods grave" and I really wish we knew what the fuck that was supposed to be. maybe where all the old gods were buried?
honestly the amount of cut shit in ds3 makes it make a lot more sense why the lore is as retarded as it is. also pontif was going to be the final boss which makes a ton of sense given his lore background and yet in the normal game he was just an insignificant half way boss.

>no plot twist npc boss dancer >no lorian and lothric coming back for more as Sullyvahn and Aldrich >no coiled trick sword how is this acceptable?
I personally have different builds of the game and made a few threads about it, including one recently. I'm also been in contact with modders discussing and confirming/sharing interpretations and data. It took a while to find and restore some functions and content. A lot of myths and inaccuracies have been spread. I'll start by saying that the retail version of what we got is more complete that people were lead to believe by those myths, and Dark Souls 3: the Fire Fades edition uses or repurposes most of the themes, ideas and content Dark Souls 3 was meant to have. The "leaks" regarding Kaathe and Gwyn or supposed nonsense like "Oceiros is a Bloodborne asset and Gundyr was Oceiros" are wrong. Now, to the business Fact 1 >The character in Firelink armor was supposed to be an NPC, not the Soul of Cinder nor the player. The "Red Knight" was what, back in DS1, Oscar was also meant to be, a direct opposition to the player. He had even a final boss OST >Pontiff Sulyvahn WAS NOT the final boss. Not only nothing indicates that, the Klin of the First Flame dodn't even exist back in the NT beta. This is wrong info from a supposedly "reliable" leaker and I will refrain from further commenting about the person specifically, but I can easily disprove the "source" >The map was slightly different. The player would start in High Wall, and go all the way to Undead Settlement. From Undead Settlement there were three paths. One path was Profaned Capital, accessed through the sewers, the other 2 were Catacombs/Smouldering Lake through Greatwood lower arena and Road of Sacrifice. The Bridge was also it's own area, not the bridge you land on but a chunk connected to Lothric Castle. This can also be seen by the LOD from Cathedral of the Deep in earlier builds >Irithyll/Anor Londo were in the desert, Archdragon Peak could be seen in the distance >Yhorm, or Halleck the Giant, was Lord of Cinder at some point I'll add more later in the thread
DS3 was just something they had to do cause of the Namco contract. It shows when you compare it with Sekiro and Bloodbrone.
Nathaniel Bennett
I'm kind of mad that they cut the whole mechanic of making your own bonfires. I think they were going to be a finite resource so you would have had to be really smart about spacing them out where you really needed them.
Easton Long
The bonfire making was never a big mechanic, it was an experimented idea that From ditched early on Ceremonies were actually relevant
Gabriel Gonzalez
Unfortunately Dark Souls 3 was developed with a flawed mentality. Game is flawed, fundamentally. More levels wouldn't change that.
All of this is fake >also pontif was going to be the final boss Wrong God's grave was a large area commected to the bottom of Lothric Castle from Pilgrim's bridge God's grave boss was Oceiros
Daniel Campbell
>DS3 was just something they had to do cause of the Namco contract All the evidence that exists refutes that. I would say, on the contrary, DS3 seemed to have a lot of passion and work put into it. The issue seems to be that the scope of the game grew too large and ambitious, forcing FromSoft to cut back on it, and in the process, stuff disappeared and others blended in to become one thing instead of two.
Been waiting for an overhaul mod that restores this game to it's original vision for years now. Modder after modder keeps promising this and it never happens. The next best thing I've found is Convergence because the idea of playing Dark Souls 3 in the linear way vanilla funnels you into makes me want to throw up.
Cameron Young
I had so much fun replaying ds1 but with ds3 i just wanna quit after pontiff. why is that? For some reason 3 is so boring to me
Lincoln Harris
the levels are all so boring. its all just gray stones, gray castles, brown mud, brown trees
Sebastian Lee
>game had stuff that didn't make it in because video games have release dates no way
Nolan Clark
Do you have stuff to back that up? Some things from add up with what we know, like the Bat demon originally appearing in Smouldering Lake. I do agree the Gwyn shit is definitely fake though.
Blake Rodriguez
3 is really linear with how the world connects
Jaxson Howard
>Ceremonies were actually relevant Please elaborate.
Leo Campbell
3 is a linear dumbed down hack n slash and all the levels are the same, or swamps.
Jaxon Walker
You just described Bloodborne, and Yea Forums can't stop sucking it's dick. The double standards are amusing
Jordan Sullivan
>Yea Forums can't stop sucking it's dick It's sony propaganda
Caleb Peterson
The Bat demon appears in the Smouldering Lake in the same build the Carthus worm does. From had no idea if it were to be a boss or miniboss Gundyr wasn't Old King Oceiros. Oceiros always existed from the very early build, with dragon child. Gundyr was the Old King of Lothric and was always supposed to burst into a Pus of Man There was no Indiana Jones reference, the Basim of Vows There's no indication of two accesses to Irithyll because Irithyll in the alpha wasn't even Irithyll and Irithyll dungeon was under Undead Settlement Abyss Watchers were never in any desert areas, they were always in the Mausoleum of Fort Farron, alongside Wolf of Eclipse No Primordial Serpent is in the files Soul of Cinder, Klin of the First Flame and everything related to the last stage did not exist until very late in dwvelopment Somebody had some real fun taking superficial level leaked content, TheKnow screenshot, and mixing their bullshit with a bit of "My Dad works at Fromsoftware" It doesn't even mention the more blatant discoveries like Lorian and Lothric originally merging
user only certain bossfights are kino, most of the levels are the same as DaS3 linear as fuck and uninteresting aside from nightmare frontier
Owen Morgan
Ceremonies were both PVE and PVP related. They were related to time of the Day and worked as bonfire ascentics, AND as PVP mechanic. A ceremony bringing the map in Darkness started a free for all invasion mechanic for example. It's likely that the endings were actually ceremonies performed on or by the player (in a similar way to Anri in the retail) The opening shows Red Knight performing a ceremony with a dragged body Portable bonfires were never a fully implemented thing, and was solely about temporary dumbed down bonfires with limited features which is why Fromsoftware cut it very early
Isaac Long
was dancer supposed to be a npc?
Carson Wright
Weird how the game was better before Miyazaki came on board.
>not every boss is 10/10 wow you're right, crazy >most of the levels are the same as DaS3 linear as fuck lmao name one area in DS3 as complex as yharnam. not to mention that the BB map is actually connected in a coherent way (like the door from old yharnam to yahargul) rather than a straight line. >uninteresting aside from nightmare frontier opinion and a shit one at that. uninspired castle wall #12 is not even comparable to bloodbornes world
The Red Knight being the equivalent of Oscar meant he/she would have chosen the opposite of the player ending There's female and male art and even unused animations and models Red Knight appeared in promotional material too
3 is way too linear. It feels like a game that was made as a stage to stage linear game that was then forced to be one world. Maybe it should have been like Demon Souls and have separate stages.
Luis Jones
>This can also be seen by the LOD from Cathedral of the Deep in earlier builds Show us.
Asher Wood
3 was made to offer the following progression High Wall > Undead Settlement > Profaned Capital > Irithyll Dungeon > Lothric Gate > Pilgrim Bridge > God's grave After God's grave the avaiable paths were Cathedral of the Deep, Farron forest and Cathus of the Sands + Anor Londo
The bridge was always low (actually it's Lothric that is high, especially in the early version where Dark roots were coming from the base of Lothric No that's true
>I'd give away my fucking kidney to get an early build of dark souls 3 It's not that rare >Fuck fromsoft Bamco is responsible
Kevin Murphy
i believe he means that das3 got very carried away with rolls. rolling was super strong compared to des, das or das2, it cost very little stamina to roll and stamina regen was high enough that there wasnt really any consequence to spam rolling in most situations
Ayden Green
Not as bad compared to all the stuff cut out from Dark Souls 2
Adrian Cook
Most of the stuff in this pic is made up or conjecture btw
That's just stuff that by that timeframe was already uncovered by superficial diving in the alpha NT builds or TheKnow leaks The rest is headcanon
Ethan Rodriguez
I know, I'm not saying it's anything new but it's still mildly correct
David Rogers
Christ, DS2 looks like shit
Zachary Brooks
The webm is highlighting ds2s torch going out while rolling in water compared to ds3s where it doesn't. An incredibly small thing to nitpick especially when its a design choice. Weird that anyone fellating ds2 would ever bring up rolling problems when ADP exists, but they have extremely specific hills to die on for that abortion of a game. Usually hills that involve deflecting to DS3.
Jackson Rivera
Yhorm was an actual boss fight. World of Dark. Storm Ruler on Rotwood. Graves. Portable Bonfires. The Wolf. Pus of Men variations. Dead Baby. Sullivan was the final boss. Peak having an actual Dragon as a boss. What else?
Nolan Thomas
Five burning babies hanging on Vordt that were cut but were still visible for a split second in one of the earliest trailers.
