I have no idea why people are upset that an Ex is no Thordan or Hades tier, it literally is just catchup gear and if you want harder stuff, Savage is literally doable with the same party size as the Ex trial.

Well yeah, that's the point. The Ea found despair because they thought they understood everything, but if you pay attention to the setting you'll realize they actually somehow managed to miss that other dimensions are a thing. They could sit in this universe until heat death approaches and then hop to another one exactly like Gilgamesh does. And the nature of the FF multiverse is that there are always new dimensions being born within the Void. The Plenty and our world's Ancients both weren't actually as perfect as they thought. You can see a perfect example in the Elpis segment where Hythlo talks about how trendy sharks had become. The Ancients were actually creatively stunted because they had so few problems to overcome. And that meant when someone did actually come up with a novel idea, everyone jumped on it because thinking up a new idea was so rare. They could have explored the stars, they could have helped all those other planets find meaning, they could have done a thousand other things but it just never occurred to them because they had no reason to think about it without some form of problem to drive them.
