this one's especially bad, the general vibe of the mario series allows common mooks to be good or bad depending on the situation. but with these redesigns you can only see that as an enemy, and it really fucks with the flexibility of the characters

Mario's designs tend to reflect gameplay. Flying Koopas just tend to bob up and down in the air, and you wouldn't attach rocket thrusters to an enemy like that. Rocket thrusters are for enemies with a lot of forward speed. Likewise, because Koopas often produce a shell after they're attacked, it's better if that shell possesses a more sensible shape in regards to how they're used in gameplay.

The fundamental issues with a lot of these designs is that they don't really care about the gameplay at all.
